the amazing things you'll be doing
In journeying to the wildest places in Scotland, our clients and guides are afforded some incredible photographic opportunities. We are proud to work in association with two of Scotland’s finest landscape and outdoor photographers. We now offer a range of unique photographic journeys in association with Colin Prior and other leading photographers. These trips will allow you to improve your photography while based in stunning wilderness areas. Learning to connect with the landscape holds the key to capturing an image.
Knoydart, Skye and the Small Isles: £1195 (8 days) ex flights or train to start point 2008: 30 Aug
A photography holiday exploring Scotland's Knoydart Peninsula and Small Isles archipelago with leading photographer Colin Prior. Explore secret locations by private boat and stay in a remote wilderness lodge overlooking the Isle of Skye.
The Isle of Harris - Big Sky Country: £1050 (7 days) ex flights or train to start point
The white sands, turquoise water and cobalt skies found in the south of Harris have inspired artists and photographers for generations. Our photography holiday with Colin Prior is based on the spectacular west coast of Harris, from where we explore some of the finest photographic locations Scotland has to offer.
5 day photography trip, £995 (5 days) ex flights
The landscape of the Assynt and Coigach is unique. Its defining quality could be described as ‘ancient’ with the underlying rocks billions of years old. The light found in the north-west Highlands is amongst the finest in the world and combined with the superb graphics offered by the mountains, photographers have the potential to capture rare moments which will never repeat themselves exactly. Led by Colin Prior.

how this holiday makes a difference
Despite its beauty, the Highlands and Islands is one of the least affluent regions of Scotland. The further north you travel, the more evident this is. By bringing the benefits of tourism to this remote area and using local services and produce, we help to support local businesses, create employment and contribute to the overall sustainable development of the region. Our strict 'leave no trace' policy ensures that our presence in these beautiful regions will not have a negative effect on this fragile environment. This concept will be explained by our guide at the start of the trip and practised throughout. Through responsible guiding, we will enable our clients to develop an understanding of the existing and future issues which affect these valuable wilderness areas. These trips are based in locally owned guest houses. Photography trips provide a valuable source of revenue for these small businesses outside of the main tourist season. The guest houses use locally sourced food whenever possible, and also employ part-time staff, thus contributing to the local economy. All of our Scotland-based trips start at railway stations to encourage travel by rail to Scotland. Our photography expert, Colin Prior, is passionate about protecting wild places and feels that forming a connection with the wilderness is a vital element to capturing its spirit in a photograph. Awakening these connections amongst our clients has knock on benefits as they realise the value of wild places and perhaps make some small changes to their own lifestyle to lessen their individual impact on our fragile environment. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
