the amazing things you'll be doing
This tour is designed to give a "sampler" experience of Venezuela. Our tourists will get a taste of all the natural wonders of the country in an environmentally-friendly and culturally-enriching way. We offer organized, "hands-on" tours to show you some of the most beautiful and untrammeled places of the country.

On this adventure, you will tour the Gran Sabana to see Angel Falls and the giant tepuis, take a jungle excursion through the Orinoco Delta to experience local Indian culture and view wildlife, visit local villages in the Andes Mountains, take a safari through the Llanos (plains), and finish at Los Roques to relax on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Gran Sabana: This grand savannah encompasses Canaima National Park and Angel Falls. Canaima has rich tropical rainforests and far-reaching savannas where you will encounter the towering mist shrouded Tepuis (mesas) that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's famous book "The Lost World." No city skyline can compare to this mesa dominated horizon, where waterfalls plunge into the surrounding rainforest. Many of these tepuis have unique ecosystems, with species that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The largest mesa, Ayuantepuy, is home to Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall in the world, which towers nearly twenty times higher than Niagara.

Orinoco Delta: The Orinoco is the longest river in Venezuela, whose delta channels are surrounded by tropical forest. This area also houses mangrove swamps that boast a rich diversity of bird life. Here you will find small, unchanged communities of Warao Indians collecting fruit, planting maize, hunting, fishing, and making handicrafts out of balsa wood. Excursions offered from the base camp (Orinoco Delta Lodge) include jungle walks in the tropical rain forest, boat trips to observe flora and fauna, canoe rides with piranha fishing, sunset rides with cocktails, and night rides for animal observation.

Los Llanos: The Llanos are expansive and untamed plains with a unique ecosystem that revolves around a flood/ drought cycle. They house an extraordinary concentration of plant and wildlife, including more than 400 species of birds, giant anteaters, wild horses, iguanas, red howler and capuchin monkeys as well as capybaras, the world’s largest rodent. The rivers are full of exotic species such as the fresh water dolphin, piranhas and anacondas.

Los Roques: These islands form one of the least known, yet most beautiful archipelagoes in the world. This undeveloped National Park is a giant coral reef that skims the surface of the turquoise and emerald waters of the Caribbean Sea, forming 50 white-sand islands, and countless banks and islets along the way.

Mérida: Located on a plateau in the heart of the Andes Mountains, Mérida is well-known for its outdoor activities such as horseback riding and hiking in the mountains. It boasts one of the most colorful markets for local handicrafts and fruits in Latin America, Mercado Principal. Plaza Bolivar is the cultural center of Mérida, with a mixture of indigenous, colonial and modern Latin American elements that make up the culture of Mérida. Here you will find daily activities that include mimes, jugglers, local story-tellers and musical performers.
best time to go
Venezuela is virtually a year-round destination. We recommend you take this trip between September and April. However, you may want to take into consideration that the rainy season in Los Llanos between May and September.

how this holiday makes a difference
With this tour we aim to give tourists the opportunity to visit and discover virtually all the natural wonders of the country in a community friendly way. We make this possible by providing accommodations in locally owned and operated guest houses and ranches as well as only contracting local services and guides.

Additionally, we support several non-profit organizations that promote the economic prosperity and education of the local communities that we visit, such as the Program for the Tropical Andes, the Orinoco Delta Lodge Foundation, and the Venezuela National Parks Association.

In order to be more eco-friendly we only take small groups in order to minimize the impact on the environment as well as not permitting tourists to take "souvenirs" (feathers, nests, eggs, etc.) from the habitats of the native plant and wildlife. Our tours provide locally owned accommodations in or near to internationally renowned biological stations. In the Andes, tourists can visit the Condor Re-introduction Station to observe the efforts of the Andean community to maintain the population of this endangered species. Moreover, we use environmentally friendly forms of transportation such as jeeps, canoes and bicycles whenever possible. Finally, all of our jeeps use unleaded gasoline and meet Western emission standards.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
