the amazing things you'll be doing
Teach in Vietnam
Stretching along the east coast of the Indochina peninsula in southeast Asia combines the charms of traditional Asian culture and French colonial influences. It has endless beaches, soaring mountains, old hill stations and some of the greenest countryside you are ever likely to see. The scenes are timeless, familiar even, as locals play out their daily lives as they have done for centuries. Floating markets of fruit and vegetables ply the Mekong Delta as dawn breaks and peasant farmers in conical hats work the distant paddy fields where water buffalo gather. And in the South China Sea are the 3000 chalk islands in Ha Long Bay.
Easy to travel around, Vietnam is also one of the safest Asian countries for a volunteer abroad to visit. It's a country at peace with itself and its people are eager for the volunteer to assist them in taking their first steps in a modern world.
We work with several state primary schools throughout Hanoi to offer native English skills to eager pupils. Your classes will be full of young, energetic children who usually have a low level of English. Your help is needed to plan fun learning activities in order to increase the kids' speaking and listening skills. Get involved with story telling, singing and playing games. You will usually be an assistant but in some cases you may get the chance to lead your own class. You will receive TEFL training before you leave giving you the practical skills to use in the classroom.
Graduates of our online and weekend TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses have the opportunity to teach abroad and contribute to the development of the minds and futures of the people they teach. With the opportunity to learn English children improve their future prospects and adults are more likely to get better jobs.
Meeting new people is beneficial to everyone involved, creating cultural awareness and tolerance of new ideas and new people. Through teaching abroad you benefit from experiencing the country as a local, with many opportunities to get involved in school and community activities, making many friends along the way. Our short courses are tailor made with the traveller in mind and universally recognised to give you the necessary confidence and teaching basics to make you a successful teacher and citizen.

volunteer travel - what's it all about?
Are you looking for an adventurous trip with a purpose, or on a gap year or career break? If you want to make a difference in some of the world’s most important conservation areas - and in community projects - then volunteer trips are for you! Volunteers tend to have a sense of adventure, and come from a range of different backgrounds and from all over the world. Edward Abbey said 'sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul'.
how this holiday makes a difference
|
In Vietnam, volunteers have the opportunity to step in and fill the gap created by a shortage of teachers and youth workers. It's an amazing experience for all. Students get to meet and befriend someone from a new country and the volunteer gets first hand glimpses at an ancient culture in transition – from the inside.
Teachers are regarded as one of the most respectable social groups and as a result, volunteers can be sure of the best treatment. Our dedication to these schools sees a steady stream of volunteers coming into the school, so these children get the attention and instruction the deserve, while alleviating the problems the schools face, such as overcrowded classrooms and limited resources. In addition to making an impact on the lives of the children teach, volunteers have the rare opportunity to live in and become a part of Vietnam's communities; an experience that you just won't get as traditional tourist or even a backpacker. As well as volunteers, a charity has been set up to donate materials and other needs to all projects we support and these gifts are made on a bi-annual basis. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
