the amazing things you'll be doing
Ecuador is South America's Utopia, with some of the last patches of rainforest on Earth. Imagine almost a hundred snow-capped volcanoes and an array of plants and wildlife. The smallest Andean highland country, set on the Pacific coast, also packs in more vibrant cultures, well preserved architecture and unusual landscapes than many countries twice its size.

Volunteers are responding to the needs of Ecuadorians in various settings, from care work and journalism internships in Quito, to health projects in rural areas, to teaching and the conservation in the jungles of the Amazon. So that you don't miss one bit of this amazing country, we include Spanish lessons (beginner-advanced) with every work experience.

Whether in bustling Quito or in the quiet surroundings of a rainforest, teaching English as a foreign language is a wonderful introduction to Ecuadorian culture. If you are new to teaching abroad, remember that we include TEFL training before you depart. You will have both the confidence to face your first day of class and practical skills and activities that you can use in the classroom.

Graduates of our online and weekend TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses have the opportunity to teach abroad and contribute to the development of the minds and futures of the people they teach. With the opportunity to learn English children improve their future prospects and adults are more likely to get better jobs.

Meeting new people is beneficial to everyone involved, creating cultural awareness and tolerance of new ideas and new people. Through teaching abroad you benefit from experiencing the country as a local, with many opportunities to get involved in school and community activities, making many friends along the way. Our short courses are tailor made with the traveller in mind and universally recognised to give you the necessary confidence and teaching basics to make you a successful teacher and citizen.
Project details
Amazon Region
In the lush Amazon, a challenging, rural teaching experience awaits you at public schools in small villages. You could do a variety of activities like teach English, or help the children with homework and other extra-curricular activities such as the maintenance of agricultural plots and computer lessons. The Amazon projects have very limited teaching resources and class sizes can vary from small up to 40 students.

Quito
In the capital city of Quito we work with a not for profit humanitarian agency that helps needy children. By contributing your time and energy you will be a vital asset to their daily teaching and newly launched after school tutoring program. At centers around Quito you can teach English, help with homework and organise extra-curricular activities for children aged 7 to 16.

volunteer travel - what's it all about?
Are you are looking for an adventurous trip with a purpose, or on a gap year or career break? If you want to make a difference in some of the world’s most important conservation areas - and in community projects - then volunteer trips are for you! Volunteers tend to have a sense of adventure, and come from a range of different backgrounds and from all over the world.
Edward Abbey said 'sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul'.
how this holiday makes a difference
If an Ecuadorian simply learns English, that person can get a job making twice what they would have made otherwise. Volunteers make this possible by working with non-profit humanitarian agencies, teaching kids from the poorest areas in Quito and small state schools in the Amazon rain forest.

Our dedication to these schools sees a steady stream of volunteers coming into the school, so these children get the attention and instruction the deserve, while alleviating the problems the schools face, such as overcrowded classrooms and limited resources.

In addition to making an impact on the lives of the children the volunteer will teach, you have the rare opportunity to live in and become a part of Ecuador's communities; an experience that you just won't get as traditional tourist or even a backpacker. As well as volunteers, a charity has been set up to donate materials and other needs to all projects we support and these gifts are made on a bi-annual basis.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
