the amazing things you'll be doing
Are you hoping to get experience in health and medicine? Are you a medical student? Are you a practising doctor? We have volunteer health and medicine placements to satisfy your needs and specialisations. As an volunteer, you will be providing volunteer assistance where it is needed the most. Your help and enthusiasm will be welcomed enormously at projects like the rural paediatric clinic in Honduras, health centers in Brazil or a relief agency in Ecuador.

You'll face tough cases and need to be extremely conscientious when working in this field, but the effort you put in will pale in comparison to the positive effects of your contribution.Whatever your experience in health and medicine, you could be making a world of difference to someone's life.

Remember - health and medicine overseas volunteer projects are in need of experienced and non-experienced volunteers. But keep in mind those with less experience might also want to look into some of our community development projects that offer pre-med students a solid introduction into health care.
project details
Ecuador health placment from £995 (6 weeks) plus £125 per additional week up to 16 weeks.
Your help is needed in Quito at a non-profit relief agency that helps children in the poorest areas of the city. Each clinic has a doctor, dentist, and some nursing and admin staff. They welcome newcomers or specialists. You might help maintain the files, help at the reception desk or in the nursery, assist with patient check-ups, or provide general assistance to the doctors.

La Esperanza from £885 (4 weeks) plus £130 per additional week up to 24 weeks.
If you have medical experience you can get involved in a variety of activities at this small hospital in La Esperanza. Utilise your existing skills as you help with general medical assistance in the Pharmacy, Blood Bank or Pre-natal Care Unit. The hospital requires more help in all parts of the hospital. Your assistance will also be put to use in the Emergency Room, Operating Rooms or Intensive Care Unit. If you are able to cope in stressful situations, this placement is the perfect way for you to contribute your knowledge and expertise.

volunteer travel - what's it all about?
Are you are looking for an adventurous trip with a purpose, or on a gap year or career break? If you want to make a difference in some of the world’s most important conservation areas - and in community projects - then volunteer trips are for you! Volunteers tend to have a sense of adventure, and come from a range of different backgrounds and from all over the world.
Edward Abbey said 'sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul'.
how this holiday makes a difference
There is a big difference between the city life and rural life in many parts of Latin America. A shortage of health care professionals means that many people struggle to get the care that they and their families need. Volunteers make a world of difference in this situation as they work in general medicine, nursing, nutrition, social work and midwifery.

Our dedication to several health care projects in Central and South America ensures a steady stream of doctors, nurses and med students, so these people get the attention and instruction the deserve, while alleviating the problems faced, such as overcrowded facilities and limited resources.

In addition to making an impact on the lives and health of the people, you have the rare opportunity to live in and become a part of some of Latin America's culture and communities; an experience that you just won't get as traditional tourist or even a backpacker. As well as volunteers, a charity has been set up to donate materials and other needs to all projects we support and these gifts are made on a bi-annual basis.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
