the amazing things you'll be doing
Australia conservation
Volunteer in the Outback of the world's most ecologically diverse continent. Isolated for 55 million years, Australia evolved as a sanctuary to species long since extinct elsewhere. It is an extreme environment, and it needs our help. Globalization and the effects of climate change have left Australia in great need of conservationists - battling drought and deforestation. If you want to get away from civilization for a while and protect our bio-heritage, join us in a venture to Australia. Far from being all work and no play, Australia offers the ultimate day off. Take time out in white water: surfing or rafting; in the blue waters surrounding the Barrier Reef; or in the dusty red landscapes of central Australia, pondering the mystic Uluru (Ayer's Rock).
Australia Ventures are targeted conservation projects combining travel, fun and hard work. The unique part of this Venture is its flexibility: with projects and gateway cities in all six states, you are free to plan your own route around Australia. You can also take time out between projects for independent travel. All you need to do is pick which cities you would like to work from and spend at least 2 weeks in each, you'll then have a week off to make your way to your next project starting point.
Here's one idea: Start off in Adelaide where you could be helping to monitor rock wallabies in the Flinders Ranges or removing invader species from Mount Gambier Crater lakes. You can then take your week off to travel to Alice Springs where you'll start your next project which could include helping out with on-going plant and fauna mapping. It is up to you to decide where you want to explore. You can design your own Australian adventure!

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Australia is home to over one million species of flora and fauna, and nearly 90% of them are not found anywhere else in the world. As a result of human activity and environmental changes, these plants and animals, as well as Australia's natural beauty are in need of some help. Our dedication to this project and others like it sees a steady stream of volunteers in and out of the area, guaranteeing the projects the workers they need to move forward with conservation and education efforts.
In addition to making an impact on the environment, volunteers have the rare opportunity to live in and become a part of Australia's communities; an experience that you just won't get as traditional tourist or even a backpacker. As well as volunteers, a charity has been set up to donate materials and other needs to all projects we support and these gifts are made on a bi-annual basis. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
