the amazing things you'll be doing
The village of Islamlar, also known as Bodamya, is located 6 km inland from the seaside town of Kalkan. Set in the Taurus mountains, Islamlar is some 300 meters above sea level with the temperature noticeably cooler than that of Kalkan, a welcome asset in hot summer months! Locals make their living from grapes and olives, the area is lush with vines, olive groves and figs. Several springs are utilised as trout farms/restaurants and offer great dining with stunning views. These restaurants also serve a delicious local goat cheese fried in chilli oil.
rooms, food & facilities:
This Turkey villa, nr to Patara Beach is a delightful 3 bedroom contemporary mountain house in the hills of Islamlar. The setting is beautifully rural Turkey; neighbours drop by to offer you fresh village bread, cheese, yogurt and milk directly from their cow. From the patio you can see shepherds tending to their goats as the sun sets over the mountains and sea beyond. At night you can listen to the call to prayer echoing through the valley, the sound of crickets, the gentle breeze rustling the pine forests and marvel at the spectacular stars. We have recently added a wooded pagoda to the garden, perfect for a midday snooze or some sunset yoga!
Our Turkey villa has a private swimming pool and boasts a large garden for children to explore. It offers a spacious open plan living space and the secluded patio looks out over the pool and the beautiful valley beyond. Practically the whole length of Patara beach is visible from the house and on all sides you are surrounded by mountains.
Guests here can enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Turkish mountain village whilst being close to excellent beaches and charming seaside towns. A rental car is recommended for excursions. The nearest beaches are in Kalkan, around 15 minutes drive, Kaputas beach can be reached in 20 minutes and the legendary 18km long Patara Beach is just 10 km from the house.
how to find our Turkey villa, nr to Patara Beach
Papatya is located near Kalkan in the state of Antalya. The nearest airport is Dalaman, a two hour drive. We can arrange transfers and car rental at additional cost.how this holiday makes a difference
Our Turkey villa, nr to Patara Beach is nestled into a hillside hidden away from view and is intentionally designed to have a low visual impact on its surroundings. As with most village houses solar energy is utilised for hot water. Our neighbour Süleyman and his wife Hatice are employed full time to maintain the house and its grounds. The grape vines, olive, pomegranate and fig trees have been with them since childhood and we prefer their earthly touch in the gardens. Their cow is our source of milk, their oven the source of our bread. Occasionally they may invite guests into their own home for dinner, a great opportunity for meeting local people and experiencing local customs and village food. To stay at Papatya is to experience an authenticity rarely encountered in the built up resorts along the coast. The village has several fresh water springs. The drinking water at the house comes from these springs, reducing the consumption of plastic water bottles. Water is used consciously at Papatya. We do not have extensive lawns, and try to maintain an indigenous garden in order to reduce water consumption in the drier summer months. Most of the grounds are allowed to take their natural seasonal course. We encourage guests to purchase local products such as honey, olive oil and tahini, and to shop in farmers markets and small grocers. In September when our grapes become ripe, guests are welcome to pick and enjoy them. No pesticides of any sort are used on the land. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
