the amazing things you'll be doing
A really wonderful week exploring the stunning sights and tastes of Cape Town, Cape Peninsular and the nearby wine-growing district around Stellenbosch and Franschoek. Based on self-drive and staying in lovely, personal guest houses or boutique hotels. With the impressive backdrop of Table Mountain and Table Bay at its feet, Cape Town has to be one of the world's most stunningly situated cities. It is also blessed with a great climate for much of the year.Whether you like to spend your days shopping and chilling out in the fashionable Waterfront area, visiting the vibrant townships, or making the most of the natural beauty of this region, Cape Town really does have something for every taste.

Cape Peninsula National Park
This National Park encompasses the scenic Peninsula mountain chain that reaches from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south (about 60km), and is flanked by the Atlantic to the west and False Bay in the east. It includes Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope, and is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom owing to its huge diversity of plant species (about 2300 species, of which about 90 are endemic). Mountain fynbos (fine bush) is the main feature of the plantlife here. There are also about 250 bird species, plus a variety of mammals such as baboons, buck and caracal. Cape Point, within the park, boasts the highest sea cliffs in South Africa (249m).

Atlantic and False Bay Seabords
The Cape Peninsula is flanked by the Atlantic on one side and False Bay on the other. Both of these coastlines boast great beaches, such as Clifton, Llandudno, Bakoven and Boulders Beach (where you can see African penguins). There are also pretty fishing villages such as Hout Bay and Kalk Bay.

Winelands
Within less than an hour's drive of Cape Town is the beautiful, mountainous wine-growing region of the Cape. Here you will find incredible natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage and world-renowned wines. Explore the 'wine' towns with their mountain backdrop and fertile vineyards, each with well-preserved Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings. The wine growing region of Constantia is the closest to the centre of Cape Town, and it can be an alternative base from which to enjoy the city.

Stellenbosch was established in 1679 and is the second oldest town in the country after Cape Town. The Stellenbosch Wine Route boasts 44 wine cellars. Paarl is on the Berg River and close to the Klein Drakenstein Mountains which are great for hiking. Franschhoek is one of the loveliest villages in the Cape, surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Apart from wine, the region also boasts some of the finest restaurants in the Cape, offering meals ranging from traditional fare to the more exotic. You can also enjoy this region on foot, horseback, mountain bike or even from a hot air balloon.

how this holiday makes a difference
We work in cooperation with local communities as far as possible. We offer fairly-traded revenue and use locally owned and run services such as hotels. Because of this you should find that your hosts are welcoming and open in their invitations to show you their region and cultures. We try to ensure that the local people are happy to receive tourists in their home region, and are informed of the possible impact. We will avoid travelling to any areas where we know tourism is not welcome. To organise our trips we use local conservationists or operators who have a strong environmental background. We vet the operating policy of everyone we work with. This company was voted most responsible tour operator by UK NGO Tourism Concern. On average 75% of the cost of your trip - excluding flights - remains in the destination.

Flights are automatically carbon offset through The Travel Forest, which plants 10 indigenous trees on your behalf (currently in northern Tanzania). Whilst the primary motivation for planting the trees is to offset carbon emissions, the project also works as a poverty alleviation and environmental improvement scheme.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
