the amazing things you'll be doing
Community-based, educational travel programs focusing on Crete's culture, organic agriculture and cuisine.

Crete is blessed with stunning natural beauty and a rich cultural and culinary history, which you will discover when you travel with us. We'll travel off the map to enchanting traditional villages nestled between Crete's commanding mountains to study with accomplished local historians, scientists, chefs and farmers.

You'll learn the secrets of Cretan culture and cuisine during demonstrations, participation classes, visits to ancient sites, museums, organic farms, markets, fishing ports and more.

Optional adventures include hiking to significant gorges and caves, paragliding or horseback riding. We'll stay in countryside villas near organic farms or hotels that practice sustainable tourism. Ancient sites, Byzantine monasteries, gorgeous canyons and beaches are nearby for you to explore. We have scheduled our classes to leave you enough free time to savor the pace of life on this magnificent island.

The roots of the Mediterranean Diet originated in the rural communities in Crete, but the Cretan Diet is not a diet...it's a way of life. Visitors have a rare opportunity to experience the wonders of rural Crete as we do, and work with us to help keep culinary traditions alive.

For pro chefs and nutritionists tailored programs are approved by the American Culinary Federation and the American Dietetic Association for Continuing Education Credit. CCS is an internationally acclaimed program for best practices in sustainable travel, per The World Tourism Forum For Peace and Sustainable Development and the World Travel and Tourism Council.

We are members of ECOCLUB, Sustainable Travel International, the Organic Consumers Association and Slow Food.

how this holiday makes a difference
Since the Minoan era, Crete has been known for its ideal climate and agricultural products. Tourism has helped struggling farmers in the short-run, but at a great cost to the natural habitat, resources and traditional trades. We work directly with local people who are committed to preserving traditional trades and promoting sustainable development and organic agriculture.

Together we strive to protect what's left of Crete's natural beauty and resources to share with generations to come.

The value of agro tourism and ecotourism is to experience a foreign land's wild nature and unique, unfamiliar customs, sights, sounds and scents. To embrace a place for what it is.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
