the amazing things you'll be doing
What more dramatic setting can there be for snowshoeing than the Chamonix Valley and the Mont Blanc Massif? From our popular summer base of the Chalet Savoy in Les Houches, we have put together a stunning series of walks amongst Europe's highest peaks. The weeks will be led by Oliver Ensor, owner of Chalet Savoy, International Mountain Leader and long term resident of Les Houches. We will explore Alpine valleys and climb to mountain plateaux and peaks, to enjoy some of the finest vistas in the Alps. On the day off you will have an option to explore the famous Mer de Glace glacier with a UIAGM guide. The excellent snow record in the region ensures a long winter season and the tremendous variety of terrain means that we can offer both B and C graded weeks.
day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Fly from London Heathrow to Geneva. Transfer to Les Houches in the Chamonix Valley (1hr 15 mins). |
| Day 2-7: | Five guided snowshoe walks and one free day. |
| Day 8: | Transfer to Geneva. Fly Geneva to Heathrow. |
travellers' tales
The snowshoe walks on the Alps and the stay at Chalet Savoy were the highlights of this holiday. The walks took us to the top of the world, literally. They were envigorating and the scenery was stunning. (more)

This trip avoids the main downhill skiing areas around Chamonix and instead, with the small group numbers (limited to a maximum of 12), takes advantage of the remaining natural landscape. We hope to spread the benefits from winter sports beyond the normal downhill skiing and in a much more environmentally sympathetic way. The local environmental regulations are strict in the region and our trip complies with all local regulations for use of the natural environment.
We have worked to reduce our carbon footprint at our offices through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively try to reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this through our web site and do so for all our staff travel. Go on, do your bit! |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
