the amazing things you'll be doing
Just south of historic Innsbruck, our base is the authentic and charming Tyrolean village of Trins, set at about 1200m. This quaint village allows access to a large variety of skiing areas. To the west, two beautiful valleys, Gschnitztal and Obernbergtal, extend to the great peaks and glaciers of the Stubai Alps. A third valley, Schmirntal, rises east into the Zillertal Alps. On this holiday we ski in all three, exploring meadows, woods, quiet villages and working farms. A fourth skiing location is available at Mariawaldrast (1700m), a unique mountain location which combines high-altitude skiing and a former mediaeval Servite monastery, with a welcoming cafe where you may well be served by the last remaining monk. Each of these regions offers spectacular scenery in peaceful locations, and after a hard day's skiing we can relax in the hotel bar for afternoon tea and fresh cakes.

Book a flight inclusive place on either the 02/01/2010 (Grade 1) or 09/01/2010 (Multigrade 2 & 2+), and we will deduct the equivalent cost of local ski hire from the price of the trip. If you are bringing your own skis, then ski carriage will be free of charge (airline usually charges £15) . You will then still pay locally in Euros directly to the ski hire shop. This offer is open to new bookings only.

travellers' tales
In the past we have always downhill skied, but this time we decided to try cross country skiing having never done it before. It took a short while to learn the basics and by the end of the week we were able to complete a cross country journey - with no broken bones! (more)
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

how this holiday makes a difference
Our cross-country skiing holidays in general avoid large alpine ski areas, and are less dependent on snow cannons, graded pistes and ski lifts, creating significantly less environmental impact than alpine skiing holidays. Using skis that are longer and lighter than alpine skis, our cross-country day tours explore the magical scenery and tranquillity of the natural winter environments. Journeys further afield use public transport as much as possible, and the local economy benefits from our groups purchasing supplies directly. Accommodation is in a family-owned hotel.

We have teamed up with Friends of Conservation to support projects at Ranthambore, India, Nava Kiran Orphanage, Nepal and on the edge of the Masai Mara, Kenya. Water consumption in our UK office has been reduced by 30% since 2005, and the range of materials recycled by the office has been broadened. All electricity is supplied from renewable sources such as combined heat and power, and hydroelectric, and regular audits are carried out to compare our energy consumption with received benchmarks set up by the Carbon Trust.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
