the amazing things you'll be doing
Small family run Inn – Hidden far from the madding crowds in a small unspoilt mountain village in Eastern Spain. Only 1 hour drive from the overcrowded Costa Blanca coast yet a lifetime away.

Discover the real Spain, in comfortable welcoming surroundings with good food and wines, and if you're a vegetarian don't worry, you'll be well catered for here.

The hotel consists of 15 double or twin bedded rooms with quality comfortable beds, 10 with terrace and all with en-suite facilities, each room has wonderful views over the surrounding almond and olive terraces to the mountains beyond. Unusually for Spain all rooms are provided with tea/coffee making facilities.

During 2005 a ruined building alongside the hotel has been totally rebuilt and additional bedrooms.

To maintain the character and keep the new build in keeping all rooms have had traditional mosaic flooring installed. Also we now have disabled access to our 1st floor bed rooms and to most of the ground floor installations.

Lounge at Spain B & B hotel accommodation The beamed ground floor provides comfortable lounge areas with open log fire for the chilly winter evenings, bar and restaurant converted from the original stables. Outside is an enclosed patio garden ideal for dining in the warmer months. From late autumn to spring the hotel is fully centrally heated.

Having found that the vast majority of our visitors were non smokers who preferred a smoke free atmosphere in keeping with our clean mountain air we decided in 2000 to make the hotel a smoke free zone throughout, with the exception of the patio. Thankfully this has won approval from the majority of our regular guests and has brought us many new friends. Apologies to the smokers out there!

walking
Walking at Spain B & B hotel accommodationThis is an ideal location for those wishing to walk, with excellent routes close by. Directly above the village is the dramatic Serrella ridge with its prominent limestone pinnacles. Close by you can find evidence of the Moorish period with the remains of ancient castles. The wider area of the " Muntanya d' Alacant" is also easily explored from here. Our region has been described as a walkers paradise and we certainly agree with this. Indeed we wouldn't be here if we did not consider this to be the case. To ensure that visitors to our mountains obtain the best possible experience we are delighted to offer the most varied and complete packages available in the region. All our holidays are accompanied by our experienced Locally based guides. Or simply stay in our excellent accommodation and do your own thing.
how to find us
By road: We are located in the mountains of the North west corner of the Alicante province in the Valencian community (state) of Spain. Our location is in a traditional mountain village with only 120 permanent residents and life revolves around the farming of Olives, Almonds, cherries and peaches. The village is Quatretondeta and is 20kms from the nearest major town which is Alcoy. Travelling to Alcoy from either Alicante or Valencia is easier with regular and fast bus services from both cities and also a train service linking Alcoy to Valencia.
By air: The airports of Alicante and Valencia are both a little more than 1 hours drive from Quatretondeta.

travellers' tales
We did a wonderful walk through terraces filled with olive and almond trees, before walking up and over the saddle of a mountain. At the top there was a field full of bright red poppies stretching to grey Moorish ruins. (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
Patio garden at Spain B & B hotel accommodationOur business opened in 1993, in 1999 we carried out major reforms, part of which was to insulate the building to the highest standard possible (the building is 150 years old). During 2005 an extension was added using the latest techniques to ensure maximum energy efficiency.

Part of this was to install a high tech roof with excellent insulation qualities which significantly reduced our energy consumption. It is our aim to incorporate solar panels in the future to further reduce our energy needs. We work closely with local & regional government to bring environmental issues to their attention and to bring about positive action.

We were instrumental in working with the regional environmental agency and the Quatretondeta town hall to get a significant area of our local mountain range the Sierra Serrella , declared a micro reserve for Flora and Fauna under the EU Life 2000 initiative. We maintain close contact with local environmental groups.

All our staff have employment contracts in accordance with Spanish law with full social security rights and benefits. Our Restaurant specialises in regional dishes using locally grown produce and where possible organically grown produce. We encourage our guests to act in responsible way, and with an insight and understanding of the region, its people and their customs.

We bring employment to our local valley were we are the largest employer, all our staff live in local villages. All our purchasing is from local suppliers and where possible using local agricultural produce. Locally produced olive oil and almonds are available for our guests to purchase We support local income generation and small business enterprises by supporting locally owned shops and restaurants.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
