the amazing things you'll be doing
For both rafters and outdoor enthusiasts the Franklin River is synonymous with wilderness conservation. It is one of the world's last great wild rivers and forges its course through the rugged South West of Tasmania. A river we know well in all its moods and changes as it flows through deep gorges, quiet pools and magnificent temperate rainforest.

Whatever the river level you will be in safe hands. Our experienced guides have an unmatched safety record while the selection of camps and the preparation of delicious meals will exceed expectations. While any descent of the Franklin is demanding it is not necessary to have previous rafting experience. However some wilderness experience along with a sound level of fitness is essential. Above all a flexible nature and a willingness to become part of a small crew immersed in the vast and remote wilderness will ensure a wealth of experiences.

how this holiday makes a difference
After 20 years of commercial rafting, the Franklin River is now in better environmental shape than at any other time in the last two decades due to the responsible actions of our river guides, our campaigning for protection and our strict minimal impact operation. There have been many threats to the river, from the attempt to dam it in the early 1980s to the recent efforts to bring helicopter tourism into the heart of the World Heritage wilderness. With our vigorous campaigns we have been instrumental in protecting this wilderness from such threats.

Our minimal impact policies include removing ALL waste are strictly adhered to and our co-ordination with the National Park with remedial work and removing weeds will continue to ensure the condition of the river’s environments remains pristine.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
