the amazing things you'll be doing
Two towering granite rocks reach towards the sky to provide the dramatic setting for this comfortable four star camp which sits on a large hill. Located in the heart of this private game reserve, this is the perfect setting to relax, unwind and enjoy the wilderness and wildlife at this small reserve located just south of Kruger National Park.

Watch the sun rise over the Lembobo Mountains to the east and in the evenings marvel at the orange glow as the sun sets again in the west. Take in the bush views in every direction and listen to the stillness of this piece of African wilderness. Chill out in the cosy viewing deck which is raised on stilts and juts out to provide a stunning spot for leisurely game viewing.

Deck, kruger park accommodationThe boomerang shaped swimming pool with its sundeck and tree dappled shade is a delight and partially hewn from the surrounding rock to provide a great place for a cooling dip or just to chill out and read. There is an open air boma next to the towering rocks for open air dining under the stars or enjoy hearty meals at the stunning new dining deck with wonderful views out east.

Looking like giant rocks our unique dome shaped bedrooms are scattered across the kopjie with fabulous views out across the bush from the private wooden deck of each unit.

Manyatta has been skillfully designed to blend in with the surrounding natural environment and to ensure that all rooms offer a private wooden deck for bright mornings and lazy afternoons overlooking the African bush. An outside shower, deckchairs and hammock make the decks very popular with guests. Subtle lighting around the camp and footpaths connect all rooms to the swimming pool, boma dining decks, bar and viewing lounge deck. All 27 rooms are comfortable yet tastefully furnished and infused with elegant African touches. The bedrooms are air-conditioned with two twin beds (which can be made up as a queen size) and include a mini fridge (which can be stocked as a bar upon request). The en-suite bathroom has dual his and hers sinks, w.c. and bath.

how this holiday makes a difference
Our organisation is committed to supporting its local communities through employment, micro business, training and education; empowerment and enablement are combined to facilitate this process. The game Reserve has recently applied for a large government grant through The Development Bank of South Africa so as to assist and "speed up" the advancement of this vital process in the future of South Africa.

Our policy to offer all and any employment to the local underprivileged and previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa as a first option and priority. Additionally, we are passionate about the ever dwindling African environment and the negative impact of man on our environment. We are committed to preserving the sustainability of our natural habitat and fostering the preservation of native plant and animal species. We aim to encourage surrounding farms and villages to appreciate that in preserving indigenous bush, trees and animals they are helping to preserve South Africa's natural heritage and providing a valuable source of local employment and economic growth through tourism.

The following micro businesses have been initiated and supported by the game reserve:
• Tribal Dancing – Live performing show, which can be booked as an extra activity at one of the luxury lodges.
• Curio Shop – Run entirely by one of the local community members for his personal gain.
• Tuck Shop – Run entirely by one of the local community members entirely for her personal gain.
• Garden Maintenance Business. This has been initiated and currently a local individual is running this as a service to the lodge and other clients in the area.

The following businesses are in the process of being initiated and will be operational within 2005:
• Fire Wood Business – For consumer consumption through barbeques and winter fires. Wood will be harvested by a local community member and packaged for sale as well as converted to charcoal, which will be packed for sale. This is to be implemented in a sustainable way.
• Wood Carving Business – For tourism markets and export to foreign countries.
• Tours of Local Villages and Townships

It is important for visitors to note that by visiting the game reserve, you would be contributing to the sustainability of the above mentioned projects and in turn, be improving the living standards and conditions of previously disadvantaged and under-privilege communities in the immediate area.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
