the amazing things you'll be doing
This small, peaceful English speaking country offers brilliant diving and fishing off immaculate Caribbean islands that are sheltered by the second longest coral reef in the world.

Pristine rainforests cover much of Belize hiding previously undiscovered Maya ruins, many dating back as far as the fourth century - some still unexcavated. An exciting range of accommodation options mean visitors can stay in charming rainforest retreats, palapa-roofed beach cabanas and remote jungle lodges.

(Please note we are a UK based company and are only able to help with flight arrangements from the UK.)
best time to go
The dry season is from November to the end of April. May can often be a good time to go as it is the end of the season and much quieter but it is very hot and humid. The rainy season starts at the beginning of June through to October. It does not rain all day but often clouds over at lunchtime and there are downpours in the afternoon/evening. There is a risk of hurricanes during August, September and October in the Caribbean and the Caribbean coasts of Central America.

how this holiday makes a difference
Belize is a relatively recent arrival on the tourism scene and as such has been able to learn lessons from neighbouring countries, particularly in terms of preserving the environment and historical heritage, which are the chief attractions for visitors to this beautiful little country. This foresight will ultimately pay dividends in terms of employment and generation of wealth within the region.

Tourism in Belize is very non-centralised. Few visitors stay in the capital city, hence spending more currency in outlying areas. This creates alternative employment options with decent salaries for people in the provinces. It also encourages people outside the capital to make sure their children get an education. You don’t need to be able to read in order to till a field, but you do if you are to be involved in tourism.

We always try to use hotels with good environmental and social policies (locally owned wherever possible). All properties in this proposal have programs to employ from the local population and provide professional training that is often certified. In this itinerary we draw special attention to Pooks Hill, a small family run hotel employing local people. It is a 300 acre private reserve of prime broad leaf forest, originally preserved by its remote location and later by the commitment of Svea Dietrich Ward, the founder of Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve.

Another way we try to help in Central America is by supporting various charities there. In Belize we have purchased acres of rainforest for protection through Programme for Belize and regularly take orphans and children who have been abandoned or abused on trips to the rainforest.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
