the amazing things you'll be doing
Kenya is bisected by the Rift Valley and is a land of amazing beauty. From our lodge at Lake Elementaita we can walk to the lakeshore and enjoy the fantastic flamingo and birdlife that abounds here. Lake Nakuru National Park is perhaps the best small park in East Africa while the Masai Mara is, quite simply, the most prolific game park in the world. Whether it is in migration season or not, the game is usually teeming around our luxury bush camp on the edge of the Mara River. Nevertheless, it is not just game, it is towering escarpments, proud Masai warriors, exciting walking, incredible skies and impossibly beautiful sunsets which make this a magical destination.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Depart London.
Day 2:Arrive Nairobi; fly to Masai Mara. Afternoon game drive in this wonderful game park.
Days 3-4:Two full days on safari in the Masai Mara. There is ample time for game drives and the chance to do a game walk, visit a Masai village or take a hot air balloon flight (all optional).
Day 5:Long drive to Lake Elementaita.
Day 6:Full day in Lake Nakuru Park. The park is well known for its rhino and the elusive leopard.
Day 7:Morning free for optional walk to lake or relax by swimming pool. To Nairobi.
Day 8:Fly to London.
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip
how this holiday makes a difference
On this trip we use local guides on game drives and a locally-owned transport provider. Lake Elementaita Lodge is locally owned, and our bush camp in the Masai Mara is run on ecologically friendly lines with all non-biodegradable waste being removed from the region to a suitable collection point in Nairobi.

Other environmentally sound practices of note - recycled charcoal dust pellets are brought in from Nairobi for water heating. Water is always a precious commodity in the Mara; our supplies are brought by road from the Aitong well. 24 hour power for lighting through our solar inverter system. Video batteries can also be charged on this system.

Solar power and gas are used to run our refrigeration units. Local shops and manyattas are visited where a variety of locally hand crafted goods can be bought - the families of the staff at Kicheche also produce jewellery and other handicrafts which can be bought at the camp. Kicheche is also a member of ESOK (Ecotourism Society of Kenya). Our trips to this region also support a school project in the Masai Mara.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
