the amazing things you'll be doing
Nestled amidst the Rocky Mountains, the small frontier town of Jasper remains unspoiled lying in the heart of the beautiful Jasper National Park. The sheer size and beauty of western Canada is much in evidence here, Canada’s largest National Park, where elk, moose and caribou roam freely and are a regular sight on Jasper’s streets.

The Marmot Basin Ski Area, just 20 minutes from the town of Jasper, is blessed with regular falls of super dry powder snow and offers something for everyone with 1675 acres of ski terrain. KIDS SKI FREE IN JASPER! Free equipment hire and lift pass offer for children aged 6-12 yrs inclusive. Conditions apply.
Skiing information
Beginners: While it is a long way to travel to try a sport for the first time, Jasper is a perfect place to learn. Lying at the foot of the hill at Marmot Basin there is ideal learning ground for beginners, with an abundance of gentle, wide open runs on which to quickly master the basics. The local ski school enjoys a superb reputation for its high quality of tuition.

Intermediates: There are many uncrowded, expertly groomed slopes to be found on the network of trails making Jasper an intermediate’s utopia. The terrain stretches above and below the tree-line, so groups can enjoy a wide variety of pistes, from tree-lined glades to wide open snow fields offering spectacular scenery.

Advanced: The area has several long, taxing black runs for the expert. From the Knob chair, powder skiers, willing to invest in a short hike, will be rewarded with bowls, chutes and gullies filled with untracked powder. For even more of a challenge, the eagle East area offers primarily double black diamond terrain with steep bowls and tree lined gullies. For those venturing a little further afield, then a trip to the Tonquin Valley 33km southwest of the town is recommended – there is a gradual climb of 23km followed by one of the most magnificent views in Canada from 1981m.

Snowboarding: A free-ride park offers a variety of features such as table tops, rails and a quarter pipe. The dedicated snowboard school will have first time boarders mastering the basics in record time.
resort activities

Apres Ski: Some of the popular venues are Nick’s Bar and the Atha-B Nightclub. There is a selection of bars and restaurants to choose from with ‘Andy’s Bistro’ on the high street offering some great Canadian food and the ‘Bear’s Paw Bakery’ which makes some delicious snacks.

Children: 'Little Rascals' day nursery caters for children aged 19 months to 6 years old. Care can be arranged for full or half days with optional lunch cover available at a supplement. Children under 5 years use the lifts for free. Private tuition is available for children from 3yrs old. There is a water park centre in Jasper with a 180ft waterslide, a 25m pool and a separate children’s pool - a great outing for the kids!
how this holiday makes a difference
We recognise that there are negative impacts associated with ski activities over which we have no influence. But there are many other impacts, both negative and positive, over which we and our partners do have control.

  • A Do’s and Don’ts Code of Conduct is on our website and is covered at all client ski briefings by our reps in resort
  • Environmental tips for skiers are available on our website and include advice on avoiding skiing over shoots when off piste and throwing cigarette ends out of ski lifts.
  • General tips for responsible travellers are available on our website and cover such issues as energy and water conservation, littering, and buying locally.
  • At our start of season staff briefings, we task our overseas staff to identify 3 long-term initiatives that will bring positive benefits to the economies, communities and environments in which they live and work during their season.
  • The Travel Foundation have produced a DVD aimed at introducing overseas staff to the principles of responsible tourism. All our ski staff will take part in this new training at the start of this ski season.

We have introduced a Responsible Travel Award for our ski accommodation suppliers in recognition of their contribution to sustainable business practices and highlighting the winners in our brochure with a special logo. We hope that the added kudos will encourage more of our suppliers to take part. The additional informaton also helps our customers to make a more informed choice about where they take their holidays.

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Is located in Jasper National Park which comes under the control of Parks Canada. Our policies in the areas of energy efficiency water conservation, purchasing, and waste minimization continue to win international awards and benefit our staff and society. Our new environmental incentive program 'See the Forest AND the Trees' encourages staff to participate in our charitable programs such as 'Adopt a Shelter' and endangered species programs such as 'Be my Beluga.' The development of environmentally responsible meeting alternatives, 'Eco-Meet' and 'Fairmont Green Tours' further demonstrates the Fairmont environmental success story.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
