the amazing things you'll be doing
The small village of Lake Louise is situated in the Banff National Park and is surrounded by stunning scenery. Comprising a handful of shops, bars and restaurants, the village has a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere. The ski area is huge and really caters for everybody, with a choice of an easy or more taxing route down from the top of each chairlift. There are over 150 trails in total, the longest of which is over 5 miles in length. The wide open back bowls offer great steep terrain or wide open powder fields. There is always a mountain restaurant never far away. Visitors to Lake Louise should not miss an opportunity to visit the ski areas of Banff Mount Norquay and Sunshine Village which are included on the Tri-Area pass available in Lake Louise.

All guests that drive to the resort from the airport will have to pay approximately US $70 for a permit to drive in the National Park.

Kids Ski Free: Up to four children per family will receive a free ski pass for Banff/Lake Louise/Norquay when at least one parent purchases a Banff/Lake Louise Tri-area lift pass. Conditions apply.
ski information
Beginners: The gentle tree-lined runs and the excellent reputation of the local ski school make Lake Louise a perfect choice for the first time skier. Nearby Sunshine Village also has many attractions for novices.

Intermediates: Lake Louise is an intermediate skier’s paradise with its wide variety of long, exhilarating red (they call them blue in Canada) and green trails that offer thrills and challenges from the top to the bottom. More advanced intermediates may venture over to the back bowls and enter the world of powder skiing. Both Norquay and Sunshine Village offer further challenges.

Advanced: Lake Louise offers great back bowl steeps and wide powder bowls. Advanced riders will also benefit from all parts of the Tri Area which offers some extreme terrain and steep mogul fields.

Snowboarding: Lake Louise has a great variety of terrain for snowboarding. Just above the base station there is a great free ride park with half pipe and the back bowls offer ideal steeps and powder riding. Lake Louise is also an ideal resort to learn in as it has a great boarding school.

how this holiday makes a difference
We recognise that there are negative impacts associated with ski activities over which we have no influence. But there are many other impacts, both negative and positive, over which we and our partners do have control.

  • A Do’s and Don’ts Code of Conduct is on our website and is covered at all client ski briefings by our reps in resort
  • Environmental tips for skiers are available on our website and include advice on avoiding skiing over shoots when off piste and throwing cigarette ends out of ski lifts.
  • General tips for responsible travellers are available on our website and cover such issues as energy and water conservation, littering, and buying locally.
  • At our start of season staff briefings, we task our overseas staff to identify 3 long-term initiatives that will bring positive benefits to the economies, communities and environments in which they live and work during their season.
  • The Travel Foundation have produced a DVD aimed at introducing overseas staff to the principles of responsible tourism. All our ski staff will take part in this new training at the start of this ski season.
  • We have introduced a Responsible Travel Award for our ski accommodation suppliers in recognition of their contribution to sustainable business practices and highlighting the winners in our brochure with a special logo. We hope that the added kudos will encourage more of our suppliers to take part. The additional informaton also helps our customers to make a more informed choice about where they take their holidays.
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise: This property won a Responsible Tourism Award from this operators own 20 Steps survey. The property is located in Banff National Park which comes under the control of Parks Canada.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
