introduction to Wildlife photography sailing holiday in Greece
Become a successful wildlife photographer. Learn all you need to know about wildlife photography while taking part in a journey of adventure and discovery.
Sail with us for a week around the Greek islands of the Cyclades and capture unique images of wildlife and nature. The islands are not just about “sea and sun”, there is so much natural beauty waiting to be discovered. Pelicans, hooded crows, egrets and ravens, cormorants, gulls, vultures… bottle-nosed, common and stripped dolphins… sea turtles, terrapins, wall lizards… butterflies… orchids, anemones and thousands of other species are waiting to be “captured” by you.
We will attempt to observe all the above species and many more under the guidance of successful freelance Wildlife Photographer Patricia Fenn.Patricia is an English photographer working out of the Greek Islands of Crete and Rhodes where she has lived for over 15 years. She’s passionate about Wildlife and has won numerous awards for her innovative and inspiring images. Her pictures have been published by National Geographic (Griffon Vultures in Crete, and Karpathos Island), Frommer's Travel Guide, Intelligent life, The Independent, Freelance Photography Made Easy, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, several books and educational readers, and many more. She will introduce you to the unique biodiversity of the East Med. and will show you how to observe and approach the animals in such a way so as not to disturb them, and she will teach you the secrets of capturing the beauty of wildlife and nature!
In this weekly exclusive wildlife photography seminar you will learn:
The importance of composition. How to get the best out of a compact. Using different lenses for better effects.
Taking advantage of the light and using it to change a good capture into an exceptional image; and how to use filters for various effects.
The tricks of the trade: macro and Wildlife. Ever asked your self “How do they get that close?” Some well kept secrets revealed and an opportunity to practice them.
Approaching your subjects without scaring them. The importance of not using flash. How to set up a simple hide and get the wildlife to come to you.
How to use your garden or local zoo to practice wildlife photography techniques.
Camera settings made easy. How to get the best from your images in post processing and easy edits for stunning effects.
How to promote your work. How to join a stock library to sell your photos, and how to set up an exhibition of your work.
How to apply the basic principals of people, portraits, wedding, travel photography and photojournalism into wildlife photography in order to improve your images. For example, how to pose your subject, gain eye contact, get down to the subject’s level, instigate a reaction etc.
Exclusive seminar
This 7-day seminar will be an intensive practical course on wildlife photography. Each day you will have the chance to put into practice what Patricia teaches while we are sailing or walking around the islands we visit. The day will end with a review of the photographs taken, constructive crit, and tips on how to improve your skills on each topic covered. In order to ensure the Patricia’s maximum attention, only 5 guests can participate each time. Be one of them!
Welcome to the amazing world of Wildlife Photography: All you need to bring with you is the thirst for new discoveries, leaving the rest to us...
* Please note that we also organise private wildlife photography seminars upon demand.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Environment
This wildlife photography course has an eco focus. It informs our guests about the endemic species that they will encounter while sailing around Greece. It will teach them how to approach wildlife and why not to use flash when taking pictures of animals. To become a good wildlife photographer it’s essential that you appreciate and understand the beings that you come face to face with. If you understand them, you know where to find them, how to approach them in order not to scare them and disrupt their life, how to observe their behaviours and capture a unique picture showing to the rest of the world their magic. In general with all our trips, we’re trying through our activities to encourage travellers to approach places they visits with greater understanding and respect. A few of our activities and actions related to wildlife: When our sailing boat, is not chartered, we sail around cleaning beaches, recycling or giving a helping hand to researchers and organisations in their efforts to collect data in order to study and protect the environment and wildlife. Community Our base has become the island of Syros where most of the maintenance work is carried out. We employ locals for all the jobs concerning the boat. We buy materials for the maintenance of the boat from local shops. We encourage guests to visit and try the local cuisine and purchase local goods wherever we go in order to get a taste of the local culture and also support the local community. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
