the amazing things you'll be doing
The wildest and most beautiful areas are reserved for those who are prepared to go that little bit further to reach them – and those who know where to find them! On our walking expeditions, we venture to some of the most special parts of Scotland.

Choose from the rugged Knoydart Peninsula on the West Coast, the Isle of Rum or the tundra-like high plateau of the Cairngorms National Park. Both offer exceptional hiking in the most extensive and pristine wilderness areas in the UK. The last night on both trips is in a comfortable bunkhouse with a pub nearby!

The Knoydart Peninsula:
Strenuous - £399 (7 days) excluding flights - tailormade for groups of 6 or more
Accessing the heart of this remote peninsula by boat, we are dropped at the head of a sea-loch, surrounded by high mountains. We journey through the peninsula, crossing high cols and climbing some peaks (including the majestic Ladhar Bheinn) before arriving in the tiny village of Inverie and enjoying a pint in the most remote pub in Britain!

The Cairngorms Plateau:
Strenuous - £399 (7 days) excluding flights - tailormade for groups of 6 or more
This area, recently established as a National Park, contains some of the highest mountains in Britain, linked by a high plateau of tundra-like character. The expedition takes place over midsummer, when the sun barely drops below the peaks. The journey will take in several magnificent Munros and involve high camps on the plateau. One highlight of the trip will be a midnight ascent of Ben MacDui, the 2nd highest peak in the UK – a wonderful place to enjoy the summer solstice.

Isle of Rum Expedition:
Challenging - £449 (6 days) excluding flights - tailormade for groups of 6 or more
Hiking on the Isle of Rum in Scotland takes you into a unique wilderness environment. Our walking expedition explores this island of dramatic mountains, glacier-carved glens and remote beaches.

lower carbon travel
All of our trips start and finish at or close to railway stations, as this makes it much easier for our clients to travel to the Highlands by rail. We encourage travel by train or bus in all of our joining instructions that we send to clients, and also have a section on our website which includes links to train timetables and booking services to make it easier for clients to choose to travel by rail.
travellers' tales
It was a very enjoyable break, well organised and fun. It has inspired me to do more. (more)
highly commended
This tourism business was Highly Commended in our 2009 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards - organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Daily Telegraph, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society.

Since 2004, the Awards has recognised individuals, companies and organisations in travel making a big commitment to the culture and economies of local communities and helping to conserve biodiversity.
how this holiday makes a difference
Despite its beauty, the Highlands and Islands is one of the least affluent regions of Scotland. By bringing the benefits of tourism to this area and using local produce and services (such as local bunkhouses, restaurants and boatmen), we help to support local businesses, create employment and contribute to the overall sustainable development of the region.

In particular, our trips to Knoydart bring valuable income to a remote and isolated community of just 60 people, helping it to grow and become more sustainable.

This holiday, like all of our trips, operates on a strict ‘leave no trace’ policy. This concept will be explained by our guide at the start of the trip and practised throughout. All of our Scotland-based trips start at railway stations to encourage travel by rail to Scotland.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
