the amazing things you'll be doing
Our tours are a nice combination of painting sessions, visits to ancient ruins and small villages still keeping their traditions. Bodrum and its surroundings offer ancient historical sites dating back to 3000 BC. and landscapes of grandeur and rugged beauty.
The lessons of our art holidays in Bodrum will take place on the routes of our culture and walking tours where you'll enjoy the rich and brilliant colours of spring and fall, little fishermen's villages, the spectacular views of the sea, distant mountains and the Bodrum peninsula, the ancient ruins and the still preserved traditional life of the Turkish villages.
Our tutor is Onur Gülfidan, an award winning painter from the Mimar Sinan Academy of Fine Arts, the most important art institution of Turkey. He'll teach for a total hour of 6-8 hours per day although guests are,of course, free to take breaks as they wish.
The guests are free to choose any painting medium. The lessons are open to everybody, from beginners to professionals who only want the organisation and conviviality that our groups will provide. We provide lightweight folding chairs and 50X70 boards for all our guests and pre-holiday advice about your equipment.
In some cases, you will occasionally need to walk short distances to reach the location. There is, however, always a second member of staff and vehicle available throughout the day for those guests who require assistance at the locations.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our painting holidays introduce our guests the local face of Bodrum, unlikely to the crowded and touristy holiday resort of summertime. We support the local community whose income extremely decreases during off season by bringing groups to our town.
The accommodation will be at our small and charming family run hotel, in the undisturbed Paradise Bay. At our hotel, we do our best to reduce our ecological footsteps in many ways like using solar energy for water heating system, recycling water, composting organic garbage, using energy savers as key holders and planting trees. We use the water from our artesian well in our garden, drinkable but not tasty. We dont use city water. We hire local people and give them education about the hospitality business as well as teaching them English. We buy our produce from local bazaars both to give economical support to the local community and to present a fresh and healthy diet to our guests. During our painting holidays, we make excursions to nearby villages and ancient ruins where we encourage local people to preserve their cultural heritage, traditions and environment seeing people who are interested in their way of life and are supporting them economically. We also aim to make them aware of the importance of not damaging our environment, by being a good example and not disturbing the habitat during our trips into the nature. We are planning to make a painting exhibition at the end of our holidays and donate the income we get from the sales to the only primary school in our small village Gölköy, which is suffering from poverty. Our aim is to buy books and make a library for the children. This, of course, will be due to the decision of our guests who would like to participate. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
