the amazing things you'll be doing
Pula (Moderate biking) £425 (5 days) ex flights
Departures 2008: 19 Sep, 17 Oct
With its white sandy beaches, crystal clear emerald waters, ancient watchtowers and some of the best coastline the Mediterranean has to offer, southern Sardinia is a rare gem. Rising up from the sea are the ever present mountains, with winding trails and forest tracks, leading you into the lush wooded regions of this sparsely populated island. In the space of just a few days, you’ll be able to enjoy some fun undulating trails taking you into the higher mountains regions as well as along some great coastal routes. Combine this with the reinvigorating properties of the local cuisine and wine.
Our Sardinia mountain biking holidays combine cycling with the reinvigorating properties of the local cuisine and wine which you will experience in our carefully selected Agriturismi farm stays. In a cosy and friendly environment, our hosts will serve traditional home-made Sardinian food, using fresh organic produce from the farm itself.
If you can’t find a date to suit or want to do it alone, our Sardinia mountain biking holidays can be self-guided. We book all your accommodation, take you to the start point from the airport, transfer your luggage and then provide you with routes and itinerary for you to do the trails ‘unguided’.
Coast to Coast (Moderate / adventurous biking) £745 (9 days) ex flights
Departures 2008: 29 Aug, 26 Sep, 24 Oct
Departures 2009: 27 Mar, 24 Apr
A lovely route alternating between dirt tracks and quiet asphalt roads, steep climbs and thrilling descents. These Sardinia mountain biking holidays offer a challenging journey deep into the heart of Sardinia, requiring a reasonable level of fitness rather than technical ability.
Starting in the south west near Arbus, at the Agriturismo famous for its delicious home made pasta, we set off on our Sardinia mountain biking holidays through hills carpeted with lush green maquis vegetation, past remote mining villages, towards the towering sand dunes of Piscinas, where the adventure officially begins.
Our route heads east taking us past an ever changing landscape of olive groves and vineyards, lush green oak woods and into breathtaking wilderness mountain scenery. New found trails will take us across the Gennargentu, the highest range in Sardinia. The challenge culminates with a lovely descent through the mountains of Supramonte to the stunning emerald green Orosei Gulf.
The final day of these Sardinia mountain biking holidays is in the coastal town of Cala Gonone which offers numerous water-based activities prior to our final evening celebration - a Sardinian feast with local wine, beer and music!

La Costa Verde (Adventurous biking)
£745 (8 Days) ex flights
Departures 2008: 06 Sep, 04 Oct, 01 Nov
Departures 2009: 04 Apr, 30 May
Remote, sparsely inhabited with long golden sandy beaches and stunning mountains, La Costa Verde is the perfect setting for week long Sardinia mountain biking holidays.
Amongst stunning Mediterranean scenery we ride speedy twisting singletracks to the coast, picturesque wooded trails and remote mountain passes which will excite and enthuse riders, whatever their level.
Biking through remote mining villages and along rugged coastlines to fishing villages, surrounded by emerald blue seas, many of the rides finish at the beach, so don’t forget to pack your swimwear for the post ride dip!
Our base for the first part of these Sardinia mountain biking holidays, nestling in the peaceful foothills of the Sulcis Mountains in the south west of the island, is a family-run ‘Agriturismo’ farm, producing wine, organic vegetables, cured meats and mouthwatering home made pasta. From here we take a few days to explore the network of superb trails and singletrack that link these old mining villages and that have now become Sardinia’s most prestigious mountain biking holidays destination! Returning to base, after a day of thrills and “wows” our agriturismo is the best place to experience traditional cuisine and wine at its delicious best.
Moving to the coast mid-point, our accommodation is a charming hotel and is an ideal setting for the second part of these Sardinia mountain biking holidays! With sun terraces overlooking uninterrupted coastal and mountain views, and yet only a ‘stones throw’ from the long sandy beach of Portixeddu, what better place to relax after a day in the saddle?
Amongst the mountain biking highlights, and there are many, are the heavenly singletrack descent through Gutturu Pala Gorge, the ‘never ending’ downhill from Mt. Linas and the array of fun singletrack, through the lush cork forests of the Sulcis mountains. Rest day is fairly flexible with activities ranging from hiking in the nearby hills, sea kayaking, lazing on one the stunning Portixeddu beach - or perhaps even a little more off-road mountain biking?!?

this tourism business was Highly Commended
In our 2005 First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards, the largest awards of their kind in the world, and organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine. The idea behind the Awards is that all types of tourism – from niche to mainstream – can and should be operated in a way that respects and benefits destinations and local people. how this holiday makes a difference
|
Global adventures start with a local perspective – that's our philosophy. Whether abroad, or just as importantly at home, the start point is the same; how to get the most enjoyable holiday for our customers while benefiting the local people, economy and respecting the environment.
Cycling & mountain biking is a great way to explore the countryside, travelling at a speed that enables you to take in the surroundings without damaging the environment. On our Sardinia mountain biking holidays, in selecting accommodation in small villages, farm stays (agriturismi) small pensioni or Guest Houses, we make sure that the local people benefit, whilst assuring quality for our guests. By collaborating with locally based people and buying local products from small producers, (organic if possible) we contribute to the regional economy. Travellers on our Sardinia mountain biking holidays are provided with our Travellers Codes that encourages the reduction of water usage, systems for collecting, recycling or safe disposal of litter and relevant suggestions to minimise damage to the environment, wildlife and marine ecosystems. All our Sardinia mountain biking holidays have a maximum group size of 12 to 15 people minimising both the social and environmental impact. Being able to participate and connect with the local culture provides a richer holiday experience. Accompanied by a local knowledgeable guide our guests are able to understand in depth about Sardinia's culture. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
