the amazing things you'll be doing
The city of Rio de Janeiro, once the capital of Brasil, is one of the most visited places in the world and a favourite of many.
Carefully sheltered by mountains and forests, Rio de Janeiro state rests irresistibly besides the Atlantic Ocean. The remains of its vivid colonial history can be seen throughout the city and the region. Tom Jobin’s legendary girl from Ipanema continues her sensual walk on the way to the beach.
Rio’s “Centro” district presents numerous possibilities for cultural walks, museum visits, trolley rides and a stop at a favorite Brazilian get-together place known as “Barzinho”.
Wooden tables placed by the open sidewalks serve countless varieties of petisticos*, accompanied by the flawless Brazilian lime drink -“caipirinha” and the sound of Bossa Nova.
A visit to Rio city can immerse anyone into the local culture and should be done on foot, by bicycle - mainly around the beaches, neighbourhoods and the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas - or by small private vehicle.
One must not forget the nearby towns and beaches, hosting amusing possibilities such as: visits to Historic Colonial Farms, treks to mountain peaks inside the Atlantic Forest, boat rides to unspoiled beaches, extreme sports, hikes on trails built during the slavery days or a visit to one of our precious Colonial towns.
Candidly, It is impossible to list all of Rio’s secret places, but they are all there waiting to be seen by any traveler willing to explore within and beyond the eyes of the “Christ Redeemer”.

how this holiday makes a difference
Rio de Janeiro is a large urban city densely populated and with many social problems. While touring we like to educate our travellers in hope they will leave Rio with a better understanding of how life is lived in that city.Walking trips can bring travellers in closer contact with locals and also can eliminate the use of motorcar. Many times public transportation will be the choice. Accommodation is chosen based on the location however we try to use small and possibly locally owned hotels. The new and trendy locally owned guesthouses located in the upcoming neighbourhood of Santa Teresa are a good option to those looking to be around the heart and soul of the Cariocas, and a great way to support and promote local economy. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
