the amazing things you'll be doing
This 2 week tour is one of our most popular in Central America, and for good reason - it's a great combination of sand, sea, wildlife and culture.

On this adventure we will explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Belize and Guatemala, view magnificent inland caves, canoe on the rivers and enjoy the wildlife and greenery of the jungles. We top it off by spending the final few days in the warm waters of Belize's barrier reef, the second largest in the world.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive Belize City. Arrive in Belize City at any time.
Day 2-4:Flores / Tikal, Guatemala. As you cross the border into Guatemala, you’ll immediately notice a different culture, punctuated by a heavy Mayan influence and Spanish language. Take a Spanish lesson, followed by a visit to a medicinal garden in San José. The next day explore the mysterious lost city of Tikal, buried deep in the rainforest.
Day 5-6:San Ignacio. The forest of Mountain Pine Ridge, the Mayan cave of Actun Tunichil Muknal, tubing down a lazy river or visiting local Mayan sites, including the famous Xunantunich, are all options here. Pick your choice and enjoy your stay; did we mention there is also some great food and wildlife?
Day 7-8:River canoeing. Our local crew will expertly guide you on the many twists and turns of the local rivers. Canoe experience is not required, as our guides know the rivers well and are happy to share their knowledge of the local wildlife with you.
Day 9-10:San Ignacio. Back to the Cayo district to squeeze in anything you missed the first time around.
Day 11-14:Caye Caulker. After the jungle jaunt, it is time to slow things down for some serious R & R. Sun, sand, fantastic snorkelling and diving opportunities are now the focus. Enjoy a full-day snorkel trip out to the barrier reef where you may have the chance to swim with nurse sharks, stingrays and barracudas.
Day 15:Depart Depart Caye Caulker.
travellers' tales
5 star experience! Most memorable part was the people in the group (all 15 of them), the city, the jungle and the beach! Bit vague but I just loved it all. (more)
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.
how this holiday makes a difference
Through our commitment to responsible tourism, we ensure minimal social and environmental impact in the places we visit by travelling in small groups, using local transportation and staying in locally owned hotels. We also work with experienced local guides who are knowledgeable of local culture, history, flora and fauna.

This tour offers a visit to Escuela Bio Itzá, a community-owned Spanish language school. This unique program combines language instruction with environmental education and cultural enrichment. In addition to receiving a Spanish lesson, our groups also have the opportunity to visit their local community and conservation projects.

Through our non-profit organization, the Planeterra Foundation, we support the Cornerstone Foundation, a local NGO that offers social, educational and environmental programs in San Ignacio, Belize. Donations to this project support their literacy programs, developed to education illiterate and non-English speaking Belizeans. Time permitting, travellers may ask their tour leader to organize an optional visit to this project.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
