the amazing things you'll be doing
Mera Peak (6461m) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal and a suitable challenge for a first time climb in the Himalaya. Our specially devised itinerary allows optimum time for building fitness and acclimatisation – key factors that have contributed to our enviable summit record.

On our trek - that leads though the traditional Sherpa villages of the Solu Khumbu and the blue pine and rhododendron forest trails of the Hinku Valley - you appreciate why we have selected this magnificent approach to the base camp.

Fully acclimatised we ascend to a high camp just below Mera La and prepare for our attempt on the main summit of Mera Peak. The ascent is not technically demanding while the unequalled views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu will more than satisfy your aspirations on this fine Himalayan climb.

how this holiday makes a difference
Porters are an integral part of this trek and our close association with the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) and Porters’ Progress demonstrates our commitment to improving their conditions and at the same time lessening the environmental impact. We subscribe to the five guidelines suggested by the IPPG and have also gone one step further. Twenty years ago we pioneered the use of kerosene rather than wood fires and today are one of the first adopt a policy of providing shelter, cooking equipment, food, kerosene for ALL our porters.

By joining this trek you can be assured that you will NOT be contributing to deforestation or the associated soil erosion and loss of biodiversity but rather you’ll be making a significant contribution by supporting our efforts to set the standards for a sustainable trekking service.

We have committed US$3000 to sponsor the Porter Rescue Post at Machermo which has been set up by the IPPG. This facility is for the benefit of sick or injured porters in the Everest region and building has already started.

All travellers are provided with our award-winning 20 page Responsible Travel Booklet which outlines our environmental guidelines and practices and will provide you will clear details on how you can play a vital part in reducing your impact on the fragile environments and cultures around the world.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
