the amazing things you'll be doing
Iceland’s distinctive volcanic landscape offers the perfect backdrop for trekking in a unique environment.
The extensive lava fields, huge moss filled volcanic craters, serene fjords that merge with the rugged coastline and extensive icecaps, and trails that lead into the heart of the renowned National Parks and Nature Reserves are all part and parcel of this carefully devised itinerary.
Each day will reveal new scenery and activities will include a glacier walk amongst a wonderland of ice sculptures and deep crevasses, visits to historical sights, bathing in steaming hot springs, walking amongst Geysers which blow every five minutes, and a climb to view Iceland’s highest waterfall.
The site of the ancient Viking Parliament (930 AD) and the scattering of tiny farmhouses and once thriving whaling stations provide a further dimension to our journey. Our trekking days, essentially a series of walks from one to three days, are fully supported by vehicle ensuring rewarding days on the trail while our nights are spent in simply appointed huts or camping in the most inspiring locations.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our Icelandic Mountain Guides insist that great care is taken towards the delicate nature of this outstanding destination. Our ambition is that all actions of the company and its members are ecological and self-sustainable, that our groups don’t leave ANY signs of their visit. We avoid any over-exploited tourist areas and we encourage discussion on ecological and responsible tourism issues.
We continue to petition against the grand-scale plans for the development of hydro-electric dams, power lines and all-year roads and are demanding action for the preservation and protection of those sites that have already been tampered with and spoiled by exploitation and construction. We have adopted the World Wildlife Fund conservation plan which ensures ecological tourism in the Arctic. All travellers are provided with our award-winning 20 page Responsible Travel Booklet which outlines our environmental guidelines and practices and will provide you will clear details on how you can play a vital part in reducing your impact on the fragile environments and cultures around the world. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
