the amazing things you'll be doing
The Bodrum Peninsula is a mountainous outcrop jutting from south west Turkey. Overlooked by its massive Crusader Castle, Bodrum is the lively centre of peninsula life with hectic quaysides, tourist shops and a wide variety of bars, restaurants and fashionable outdoor night-clubs.
The weekly market is well worth a visit with myriad fruits, spices, leatherwear and carpets all waiting for you to name a price. Twenty minutes from Bodrum, on the southern coast of the peninsula, lies Bitez, once a small fishing village but now a charming resort with a large beach and a laid back atmosphere.
Mountain bikers, divers and windsurfers all mix together in this great resort full of Turkish hospitality. Bitez is one of our premier windsurf resorts. The regular big winds in high season, and a choice of flat or choppy water make it an excellent shortboard centre for advanced intermediate and expert sailors. Light morning winds also suit beginners, whilst the reliable weather allows us to extend the number of weeks we are open at the end of the season.
PLEASE NOTE: This holiday can be booked with or without flights. Flights are available from the following UK airports: Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Edinburgh
When enquiring for further details it would be very helpful if you could let us no how many people in your party.
Children are more than welcome on this holiday. Some bike rides may be suitable for children under 14 and we have mountain bikes suitable for children over 4'10. Your mountain bike guide will be able to advise. We have been running these programmes for many years and over time have fine-tuned and expanded the options and activities available to create the perfect recipe to suit children, parents and others.
A great holiday for:
The Bitez Han - The Bitez Han is new and is the base for all of our windsurfing and biking. Our children's clubs will also be based at this hotel, so we recommend this property for families. Situated directly on the beachfront at the quieter upwind end of Bitez bay but still within easy walk of a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The rooms are simply furnished with a balcony or terrace and a seas or garden view, mini bar, telephone, hairdryer, en suite shower and wc. Air conditioning is available for a supplement, payable in resort. Our rooms occupy a small annexe in the gardens of the hotel which houses most of the facilities. Facilities include 24 hour reception, restaurant, bar, pool, children's pool, creche and play area, TV lounge, table tennis, beach volleyball, Turkish bath and money exchange.
The Yali Han - Our good friend Camilla still runs the Yali Han and constantly strives to keep improving her already immaculate hotel. A kidney shaped swimming pool and a cosy bar area makes the Yali Han a very relaxing, welcoming hotel.
The Sah Hotel - The Güngör family have been running the Sah for many years now, and regular Neilson guests have been amazed at the improvements at the hotel in recent years. The pool is now surrounded by an attractively landscaped area. A selection of highly individual junior suites have king size beds and designer furniture. Standard rooms are also available, offering good facilities in simple rooms typical of Turkish hospitality. A generous continental breakfast is included, with a selection of snacks, drinks and light meals available throughout the day.
Activities
Windsurfing - In the mornings steady light winds are perfect for beginners, intermediates and for practising freestyle. Around lunchtime the strong Meltemi breeze usually arrives. When it does, advanced intermediates and experts discover an excellent playground for learning new techniques. Bitez offers a choice of flat water in the bay or stronger breezes and chop out by Numan's Island, where we often set up a base on windy afternoons. From mid-June to mid-September most afternoons see force 4-6. Video coaching for all levels. RYA tuition levels 1 - 4 and the new FastFwd programme. We're quite happy if you prefer to opt out of tuition and blast backwards and forwards to your heart's content!
Mountain biking - Quiet citrus groves offer great off-road rides around old Bitez village. Venturing further inland, challenging climbs into pine forests lead to traditional Turkish villages and tremendous views over the Greek islands of the Aegean. Excellent off-road descents lead back to Bitez. Our experienced bike guides lead rides to suit all abilities though you are free to explore independently with a friend; they'll advise you as to the best routes and the most interesting places to visit.
Diving - Scuba diving is available near Bitez. We offer both novice and advanced PADI courses, in addition to a range of dives for qualified divers. The Bodrum area has some of the best diving in Turkey and Bitez is perfectly positioned to combine diving with the other activities available. For all of our diving in Turkey we use the PADI recognised Aegean Pro Dive Centre based in Bodrum. If you wish to try diving for the first time as part of your holiday, you may pre-book a one-day Discover Scuba Diving course. If you'd like to gain a recognised qualification, the four-day PADI Open Water course is recommended. If you are already qualified, a variety of dives can be booked on a one-day or five-day basis. Equipment can be hired if necessary.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
As part of our responsible business policy, the team in Bitez have chosen to adopt the following long term commitments on the activity side of our programme:
|
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
