the amazing things you'll be doing
Dinghy sailing has enjoyed an explosion in popularity over recent years. The development of lighter boats with modern rigs means sailing small boats has never been easier or as exciting.
Free Sailing
Every day of your holiday you are free to enjoy sailing independently within our designated sailing area. Our constant safety cover ensures you are able to practice new-found techniques or just to potter at your own pace.
Day Sailing
We regularly offer day sails, giving you a chance to explore the stunning coastlines and secluded bays found around our centres. Escorted by our safety boats, our larger dinghies are loaded with packed lunches and snorkels, before heading off to a peaceful location for a picnic and swim. Day sails are always dependant on local weather conditions.
PLEASE NOTE: This holiday can be booked with or without flights. Flights are available from London Heathrow.
When enquiring for further details it would be very helpful if you could let us no how many people in your party.
Our Dinghies
We carefully select the most suitable boats for each of our sailing locations. While some of our favourite models can be found in all centres, certain high performance models are based mainly at centres like Porto Heli, where they are suited to the local conditions. Please remember kit lists vary and from time to time some items may be withdrawn from use to enable repairs.
Location
Porto Heli stretches around the head of a large bay at the tip of the Argolic Peninsula, opposite the well-known island of Spetses. The pine-covered headland almost encloses the bay and creates a large, natural safe sailing area, beyond which are attractive pine-fringed coves, quiet sandy beaches and waterside tavernas, that can all be explored by mountain bike or dinghy. Porto Heli is also in a great location for exploring classical Greece with Mycenae, Navplion, Epidavros, Athens and the islands of Hydra and Poros all within easy reach. The bay and area just beyond provides the perfect conditions and space to race and improve your technique and skills.
You can do this on our excellent range of high perfomance and asymmetric dinghies. Porto Heli is the perfect destination for keen dinghy sailors, whilst still providing excellent facilities and attractions for non-active friends and family.
Our activity centre is based on the beach across the road from the Nautica Bay Hotel. The spacious hotel grounds and extensive facilities offer plenty of independence for youngsters of all ages who will quickly make new friends. Evening entertainment is mainly centred around the hotel bar and roof top taverna. For party animals there are a couple of nightclubs and late bars in and around Porto Heli village.
Accommodation
Our base in Porto Heli is the Nautica Bay Hotel. The hotel has always proved to be a superb location for our beach club holidays with its warm welcome, excellent food, pleasant grounds and convenient access to our activity equipment. During recent years the Nautica Bay has been extensively refurbished and is now jointly managed by the operator and the Vlachos family, ensuring the quality of every aspect of your holiday.
Feedback from our guests has been excellent, with much praise for the high standard of food, the attentive service of our staff and the friendly, sociable environment of the hotel. Many guests choose to return year after year to Porto Heli, feeling comfortable and at home in a hotel that provides the perfect setting for an active, yet relaxing holiday. Children are more than welcome on this holiday. Although children should be 13+ before joining the adult windsurf and dinghy sailing sessions, most of our centres have a range of children's clubs.
These suit all ages and all abilities, from playing on the beach or our allocated children's areas to full on RYA dinghy sailing and tuition. Some bike rides may be suitable for children under 14 and we have mountain bikes suitable for children over 4'10. Your mountain bike guide will be able to advise. We have been running these programmes for many years and over time have fine-tuned and expanded the options and activities available to create the perfect recipe to suit children, parents and other guests.

travellers' tales
Great fun - really enjoyed all the activities, the day sail tested the limited sailing skills we had, but enjoyed every minute of it - have never seen my husband panic before... (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
|
90% of our shore-based accommodation is based in small locally owned hotels, or small hotels, in preference to the larger chains. In both our locally owned and our own-managed properties local people are employed and training and promotion opportunities are provided where appropriate.
By avoiding fully-inclusive board arrangements and by recommendations in our literature and in briefings, we encourage our guests to eat out where possible to enhance their holiday experience and boost the local economies. Where we manage accommodation units all food and drink is sourced locally where possible. On our shore-based activities programmes we have been employing and training local people as assistant instructors with the long term goal of their achieving professional Royal Yachting Association Instructor Qualifications. Our Porto Heli staff have devised their own 10-Point Promise which in addition to various green intiatives, also includes projects involving teaching sailing to local schoolkids and learning to speak more Greek themselves. The majority of our activities programmes are based on wind, pedal or muscle power, providing enough energy to satisfy most thrill-seeking speed-freaks in the most environmentally benign way we know how. We can also cater for our more sedate guests, however! We no longer use anti-fouling on our day boats and where possible we use 4-stroke outboard engines on our powerboats to reduce noise, fuel consumption and emissions. We have tasked our overseas staff to identify 3 long-term initiatives that will bring positive benefits to the economies, communities and environments in which they live and work. We are working with The Travel Foundation to seek ways to develop practical, sustainable tourism solutions to help protect and enhance holiday destinations. And we are also working with the Federation of Tour Operators to develop responsible travel codes of practice. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
