the amazing things you'll be doing
Costa Rica offers more splendour, romance and adventure per acre than any other country on earth.
Supremely beautiful, it’s as if Mother Nature intended to create the most perfect tropical haven. Your journey will take you from the moss-draped cloud forests that cover the slopes of towering volcanoes, past thriving sugarcane fields, verdant banana plantations, lagoons and therapeutic thermal pools to mangrove forests teeming with brilliant birds and wildlife. Lush, dramatic rainforest spills down steep mountainsides to meet the Pacific Ocean where gorgeous pristine white beaches remain completely unspoiled and the offshore reefs open up a whole new world. This is a land of sheer beauty and exhilaration where no two days are ever alike.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:San Jose. Arrive at Juan Santa Maria International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2:Poas Volcano – La Paz Waterfalls. An early start this morning to visit Poas Volcano. Today you will also visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a Nature Park where you walk on truly spectacular trails that will lead to Magia Blanca Falls (the largest and the most spectacular of the falls in the area), and also visit the largest enclosed butterfly observatory in the world. After lunch return to the hotel. (BL)
Day 3:San Jose – Tortuguero National Park. Transfer by land and boat to one of the most exotic regions in Costa Rica, Tortuguero National Park. In the afternoon you will explore the many waterways of the park with a specialist guide, searching for the abundant flora and fauna including orchids, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, toucans and so on. Overnight at a beautiful lodge in this wildlife sanctuary. (BLD)

Highly Commended

This tourism business was Highly Commended in our 2007 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards - the largest awards of their kind in the world, and organised by responsibletravel.com in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine, of the Royal Geographical Society.

Since 2004, the Awards has recognised individuals, companies and organisations in travel making a big commitment to the culture and economies of local communities and helping to conserve biodiversity.
how this holiday makes a difference
Costa Rica possibly fits the definition of responsible tourism entirely. This tours main focus is on the natural elements of the country through a variety of active, educational and interactive ways. Starting at the historical boutique hotel in San Jose we visit the remote and secluded Casa Corcovado in the Corcovado National Park, home to the last significant virgin rain forest in Central America. In central Costa Rica we stay at The Centro Neotropico Sarapiquis where the idea of creating a place for further conservation of nature and eco-development, in combination with sustainable tourism, education and scientific research has been developed.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
