the amazing things you'll be doing
The following are all much, much closer than you might think... genuine Canadian wilderness, white water rafting, canyoning, sea kayaking, bear watching, whale watching, two remarkably diverse cities - and all just 7 hours flying time from London Heathrow.

Quebec Province offers the warmest of welcomes, vast and unspoilt landscapes, fantastic activities and some very, very special wildlife encounters. We’ve even included an overnight kayak trip to create an authentic family adventure. A never to be forgotten holiday!
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrival and Transfers. You will be greeted on arrival at Montreal Airport and transferred to your accommodation in downtown Montreal. (Dinner)
Day 2:Montreal. We have a welcome meeting over breakfast and then you are free to explore this vibrant city. There is a great deal to see and do - you can visit the Olympic Stadium, the fabulous Formula One race track, hire a bike for the day and take advantage of the excellent cycle network, shop in the underground malls or take a boat trip on the river, the options are endless. (Breakfast)
Day 3:Mattawin & Conservation Hike. After breakfast we head for the fantastic Mattawin Adventure Centre on the border of the Mauricie National Park. We take a guided hike and help to maintain some of the paths which criss-cross the Mauricie National Park whilst learning about the principles of responsible recreation. You will be rewarded with a “Leave No Trace” certificate. Accommodation for the next few nights is in a charming log built Auberge. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 4:White Water Rafting. A great introduction to the river with a full day of family grade rafting. This is how the original raftsmen first ventured into this untamed wilderness albeit in slightly more rustic vessels! You will be on the river for about five hours pausing only for lunch in the great outdoors before returning to the Auberge for a well deserved supper. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 5:Canyoning. Today’s mission is to descend the Dunbar River in the St Mauricie Reserve. A warm-up walk of 1km precedes a marvellous day of abseiling, jumping and sliding down the 2km canyon. A fantastic activity and possibly the best way in the world to get thoroughly soaked. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 6-7:Overnight Sea Kayaking. The Mauricie region with its wild forests and mighty rivers is the source of many traditional Indian folk tales. Between the famous Mauricie National Park and the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve we discover this stunning environment from the vantage point of our sea kayaks. Two days of pure exploration, discovery and delight!

On the morning of day six we meet to collect our equipment. Our guides will provide full instructions and a thorough safety briefing before we head off on our adventure. As we descend the meandering river, keep your eyes open as sightings of moose, bear, beaver and even bald eagles are not uncommon. In the late afternoon we arrive at our riverside campsite. Dinner will be cooked over an open fire and the night will be spent under canvas and the vast night sky.

Day two of this adventure starts with a hearty breakfast before we continue our journey downstream. The silence that envelopes this vast landscape can be almost unnerving but what a way to discover this wonderful back country! We arrive back at the Adventure Centre in the late afternoon and head back to the Auberge where there will undoubtedly be some stories to tell over dinner. (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners)
Day 8:St Felicien Wild Zoo. Today we leave Mattawin and transfer to the Centre for Conservation of Boreal Diversity at the St-Felicien Wild Zoo. We spend the day exploring the different Boreal environments and see an amazing multi sensorial movie. We then have the opportunity to visit back stage areas of the zoo including the veterinary clinic and the polar bears’ night quarters. We learn about the area’s history and then depart with an experienced guide to track caribou and moose. We depart by canoe at sunset onto the Montagnais Lake for a wildlife safari before settling in to our prospector tent for a night under canvas and story telling around the campfire. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 9:St Felicien and Bear Watching. After a Quebecois breakfast we have further time to explore the Centre before lunch. We then depart for Saguenay and our Auberge accommodation overlooking Saguenay Fjord. After settling in we depart for yet another adventure - black bear watching! We receive a full safety briefing before moving to the observation area. From inside our observation hides we are able to get up close and personal to these spectacular animals. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 10:Free Day. Today we have time to relax at the Auberge after an action packed few days. Alternatively there are activities that can be arranged locally. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 11:Zodiac Whale Watching. We drive to Quebec City, breaking up the journey with a spot of whale watching! The exhilaration of seeing these magnificent mammals is enhanced by the thrill of the Zodiac ride. You may see Minke, Fin, Beluga and Blue Whales during the excursion. This is probably the most remarkable journey break any of us will ever experience. We arrive at our last stop, magnificent Quebec City in time for dinner. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Day 12:Quebec City Free Day. Quebec City is a World Heritage Site and celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2008. The birthday festivities will be taking place throughout the year so the atmosphere will be electric. It’s a spectacular place with the distinction of being the only walled city in North America. This evening we enjoy a favourite Canadian pastime to mark our last night in Quebec - a sugar shack. This is Maple Heaven and a great way to discover the local music and traditions before we bid farewell to Quebec. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 13:Departures. Today we head back to Montreal, arriving at the airport in good time for our return flights home. We can also arrange for you to extend your stay in Quebec Province.
small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip
how this holiday makes a difference
This family activity holiday is designed to showcase the best of Quebec’s activities and landscapes whilst positively benefiting the local communities and economies. Our local suppliers put a great deal of emphasis on using accommodation and activity providers with well implemented policies regarding sustainability and the environment.

Where possible throughout this holiday we use smaller, locally owned accommodation and always use local activity providers. Our suppliers provide vital employment in rural areas of Quebec. Throughout the trip we encourage our clients immerse themselves in local cultures and traditions. We also encourage the learning of some basic French to allow for a better cultural exchange.

Restaurants and meals during activities combine as much local produce as possible. Through the tourism multiplier effect, this all helps to generate incomes and employment where the drift might otherwise be towards larger employment areas such as towns and cities.

The use of smaller businesses means that the tourism income, generated by our presence, stays where it should, in the local economy. We firmly believe in paying a fair price for all the services provided by our suppliers regardless of where they are in the world.

Our holidays rely on visiting beautiful and un-spoilt areas, and they don’t come more un-spoilt than Quebec. Naturally we wish to maintain the natural settings in which we work, not just for the future of our company, but also for future generations. We always insist that our local providers are equally conscious of this need.

This holiday also incorporates a guided hike where guests will learn about the principles of responsible leisure and help to maintain some of the footpaths throughout the stunning Mauricie National Park. Guests receive a certificate of participation as part of the ‘Leave No Trace’ campaign. The holiday also provides the opportunity to visit the Centre for Conservation of Boreal Diversity at the St Felicien Wild Zoo where the day is spent exploring different Boreal environments and the conservation challenges they present. Guests will also experience the local heritage and spend the night in a traditional prospector tent.

This holiday also includes some close up encounters with spectacular animals. Guests observe whales and bears in as unobtrusive manner as possible. The knowledgeable guides describe the conservation and protection efforts that take place in the area to ensure the survival of species such as the blue whale and black bear.

As we also appreciate the importance of consistent demand to small rural communities, we also operate holidays in Quebec in winter.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
