the amazing things you'll be doing
One of Fiji's greatest attractions is its pristine reefs and amazing soft corals. It is easy to explore this beautiful underwater world from the main island, Viti Levu, or from the nearby Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. However, much of the best diving is in the north, particularly along the Great Sea Reef, and so this itinerary combines the best of both areas.

Relax and unwind on the pristine beaches of the Mamanuca Islands. Here the lagoon beckons, and an underwater world awaits. Diving and snorkelling are the highlights, although many of the smaller islands still retain their local customs and traditions which you can learn via the staff who will welcome you to your resort.

Then head to the north, where you take a step back in time. Here the traditional way of life is much more evident, and the tourism is low-key, affording a much more authentic Fijian experience. Enjoy the remote, untouched villages on Taveuni for walking, village visits, and the lagoon for some world-class diving.
best time to go
Fiji's dry season runs from May to October, making this the best time to visit the islands. However the climate is mild year-round and so travel is possible outside these months, but cyclones are more common between November and April.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive into Nadi and transfer out to the stunning Mamanuca Islands. Relax and unwind on the golden sands.
Day 2:Dive or snorkel in the turquoise waters surrounding your island resort. Look out for the giant clams which are protected in this area.
Day 3:Take a dive trip further out into the lagoon, or stroll around the island and relax on the beach.
Day 4:A further day to dive, snorkel and swim.
Day 5:Transfer back to Nadi for your flight to Taveuni, where you will be met by your resort hosts and transferred to your accommodation.
Day 6-8:Several days to dive the spectacular sites around Taveuni. Sites of note are the Rainbow Reef and the Somosomo Strait, and as well as the soft corals and fish you may encounter larger marine life such as pilot whales.
Day 9:Transfer back to Taveuni for your flight back to Nadi and your onward connection.
tailor made holidays
This trip can be tailor made to create a unique holiday for your individual requirements by travel experts with intimate knowledge of the destination. It is a more individual trip that will suit those who enjoy immersing themselves in new cultures and environments, with the flexibility to plan a trip at your own pace. Quality and value are the hallmark of these trips, with most services being provided on a private basis.
how this holiday makes a difference
Environment:
Much of the environment in Fiji is fragile, and it is imperative that both the local population and visitors to the islands are aware of the irreparable damage which can be caused to eco-systems such as the reefs. We try wherever possible to recommend guides, activities and accommodation which demonstrate a clear commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism principles.

In the Mamanuca Islands we recommend Tokoriki Island Resort, a founding member of the Mamanuca Environment Society, who strive to improve and protect the local environment through awareness and education. MES contributes to the community in a number of different ways, from education programmes in schools to clean-up campaigns in surrounding villages. Tokoriki has also initiated the 'giant clam regeneration project', reintroducing three different species of giant clams which had previously disappeared to the waters around the island.

In the north, we can recommend resorts on the edge of the Bouma National Heritage Park, or adjacent to the best dive sites, depending on your personal interests. All the properties we use have a strong eco-focus, and will ensure you can spend time engaged in local cultural activities or exploring the natural environment.

Community:
On the ground in Fiji we use an excellent, local, family-owned agent who demonstrate care for the environment, preservation of their culture and commitment to the community. As part of an on-going project they have helped create townships which provide new, cyclone resistant housing with running water where previously there had been inadequate housing. Every visitor is greeted on arrival with a true Fijian welcome, and looked after throughout the duration of their stay in Fiji.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
