the amazing things you'll be doing
This is a newly renovated colonial house in Merida, Venezuela. We offer a relaxing atmosphere that includes traditional local architecture with contemporary elements, as well as gardens and water fountains. We are within walking distance from the Plaza Bolivar, the cultural center of Merida. Moreover, the world’s largest and longest cable-car, which takes you into the Andes Mountains, is only ten blocks away.

Located on a plateau in the heart of the Andes Mountains, Merida is only a one hour plane ride from Caracas International Airport. Our posada makes a great ‘home-base’ for anyone visiting this geographically rich area of the world.

Merida is well-known for its outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking and camping in the mountains. It boasts one of the most colorful markets for local handicrafts and fruits in Latin America, Mercado Principal. From the inn, you can reach local attractions such as the Sierra Nevada National Park or local lagoons within an hour and a half by bus. Or, we also offer trips from Merida to other popular destinations in Venezuela, such as the Caribbean Coast, Los Llanos or Angel Falls.

Plaza Bolivar
A short walk from the posada, the Plaza Bolivar is the cultural center of Merida. This area boasts a mixture of indigenous, colonial and modern Latin American elements that make up the culture of Merida. It is surrounded by buildings, which range from a gothic-style Catholic Church to restaurants and contemporary commercial centers, as well as museums of archeology and colonial art. The plaza has daily activities that include mimes, jugglers, local story-tellers and musical performers.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
We strive to maintain an enterprise that is both community and environmentally friendly. Therefore, the Posada was built by local workers from the Andes , with the use of local materials. We also employ four full-time and five part-time local workers to manage our inn. In addition, we contract services to local truck and taxi services.

We encourage guests to use towels and sheets for 2 days to minimize washing and detergent use, in order to be more environmentally friendly. This helps us reduce our use of potentially toxic substances, such as laundry detergent.

Moreover, we avoid washing these articles with harmful pollutants such as bleach, and instead use more eco-friendly alternatives. Finally, we have a garden that is designed as a habitat for hummingbirds, so that they can find a home even in a busy urban area.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
