A fantastic surfing skills opportunity awaits anyone who fancies gaining valuable experience working at a Surf School on the South African Coastline.

Located on the beach front at Surfer's Corner, Muizenberg, near Cape Town, the school is managed by an ex-longboard surfing champion. Here you could learn to surf, sharpen your skills, or even progress to teaching others the basics of this amazing sport.

No previous experience is required, but if you’re already a competent surfer, you’ll progress to instructor level much quicker - as well as gaining many other useful transferable skills.

What kind of skills you need to go on this type of placement: You should have an interest in surfing but surfing ability is not required as you will be given lessons as soon as you arrive. If you can already surf then you can progress to the instruction level much faster, whilst gaining valuable training tips from Gary and his fellow surf instructors. You should like working with people of all ages, be creative, hardworking and most of all, enthusiastic! You must also be a competent swimmer as you will be in the sea on most days.

Your role as a volunteer: First time surfers will begin by learning how to surf and assisting throughout the surf school. You will get the opportunity to learn the principles of surf board construction and maintenance and assist in repairs, sales and general administration. Once you have mastered the art of surfing you can progress into assisting Gary and his fellow instructors in teaching surfing classes to locals, tourists and township children.

how this holiday makes a difference
Coaching Soccer in Ecuador: Sport is a great way of forging bonds and trust with children, and in building their confidence. As this project combines soccer with some English tuition, the children are being offered two ways of gaining skills and ultimately improving their lives. With more volunteers assisting the tuition, the children will be provided with more quality time.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
