the amazing things you'll be doing
For those who prefer to walk in the company of other walkers in groups of between six and twelve, we can cater for larger groups of up to twenty. You can choose between two different departure dates. Groups of eight or more can choose their own departure date.

The walks are graded easy to moderate but we can include longer or shorter routes, some examples are given on the right. These are not treks so we adjust our pace to the terrain and your fitness level.

Our Valencia walking holidays include five day's guiding but individuals can always combine with one or two day's self-guided walking if they wish.

We have a variety of walks each with distinct character, so you may be walking through fruit orchards, olive groves, river gorges or along ridges with panoramic views.

You can explore ancient Iberian settlements and Moorish ruins while wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy spotting local plants, insects and animals. If requested we can also arrange five day's based around one or two subjects

Your guide is an expert on the natural environment of the area and will bring the countryside to life for you, click on a topic on the left for more. The walks last from four to six hours covering on average seven miles and some 1500 feet of ascents on footpaths, tracks and quiet "B" roads. This is roughly equivalent to 12 miles on flat going. Car transfers, where necessary, are short.
Accommodation options
Holiday Cottages
We have a number of holiday cottages available. All of them are approved and registered with the Valencian Government and meet all their requirements for Casas Rurals. Our favourite is As Tunel (The Tunnel) which is accessed through a tunnel like entrance to reveal a lovely patio with flower garden, great views of the mountains and access to nearly an acre of grounds with an almond orchard. All of this just fifty paces from the village centre. This cottage is ideal for a couple, it is fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard. We recommend it very highly as do all our guests.

Hotel de Tàrbena **
This two-star family run hotel is located in the village centre. The owner, Paco Molines-Ripoll, has restored the former farm workers house into a comfortable hotel. Paco lived in Canada for many years and speaks good English, you are assured of a warm welcome for your stay here. Prices are based on two sharing a double or twin bedroom, the singles prices assume at least two other walkers. We can accept singles on their own, price on application. Rooftop suites with terraces are also available.

Hotel Casa Lehmi ****
This luxury four star hotel is located just a mile from the village in quiet countryside. Set in beautiful grounds with swimming pool, tennis court, sauna and spa bath the owners set high standards in facilities and services. With only a handful of rooms you are assured of a personal service and attention that you would expect from a high quality hotel. We recommend Casa Lehmi to walkers who want to relax in high quality and spacious accommodation.
travellers' tales
We loved every day - scenery, lovely walks, and Eric's helpfulness. We felt really well looked after!  (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
On our Valencia walking holidays you will be travelling to southeastern Spain where the climate is typically Mediterranean with mild winters and hot, dry summers. During the winter nighttime temperatures can drop below zero with daytime temperatures of 8 to 12 ºC. September, October and November are the months when semi-tropical storms, with high winds and up to 500mm rainfall, can occur depending on sea surface temperatures and meteorological conditions. In the event of this we will not be walking and have an alternative itinerary of slide shows and visits to local museums.

Should you wish to buy souvenirs we suggest you buy something from the village such as olive oil, almonds or locally produced spicy sausages. This provides direct benefits to the community and to the environment by supporting those that care for the land.

Water is a scarce resource and so to reduce water consumption we recommend that you shower rather than use the bath and use the short flush on toilet cisterns when available.

During the walks we will be advising you on all aspects of the countryside from local customs to good practise but we would like to point out four cardinal rules before you arrive. 1. Do not light any sort of fire. 2. Do not leave the footpath unless your guide indicates otherwise. 3. Do not pick any flowers or remove fossils you may find unless your guide indicates otherwise. 4. Do not pick any fruit unless your guide indicates otherwise.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
