introduction to Vancouver Island kayaking vacation

Our Hot Springs Cove - Clayoquot Sound kayaking tour is designed as a point-to-point expedition, not as a loop trip.

By utilizing a water taxi on the last day of our adventure, we have the advantage of traveling to more remote locations with each passing day.

Launching from Tofino, our first night will be spent relaxing at the jewel of Clayoquot Sound, the Vargas Island Inn, after which we will set up camp at a new secluded location every day. As you relax around a crackling campfire reflecting on the days kayaking, our guides will be busy preparing a feast of mouth-watering cuisine.

After the day culminates in a remarkable west coast sunset, you will drift off into restful slumber as the sound of crashing waves resonate in the background. Clayoquot is also known the world over for its summer population of resident Grey Whales. These leviathans of the deep take part in an annual 11,000-mile migration that brings them into the sound in early spring and sees them depart in the fall, making for superior viewing opportunities throughout the summer.

To bring this expedition to a close, we save the best for last. What could possibly be better than relaxing in the mineral rich pools of Hot Springs Cove to sooth the muscles? Our last night will be spent here with ample time to explore the island or just soak in the hot springs. The next morning we will start with a hearty breakfast before we board our water taxi for transport back to the friendly west coast community of Tofino. We often see Grey whales on the way back and the boat makes a nice stable platform for taking great pictures.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arriving on Vancouver Island. You’ll begin your trip at the launch site in the friendly, world famous community of Tofino. You can travel with us in our van or meet us at the launch site at 12:30 hrs. Here, we will make the transfer to our kayaks and, after a boat packing and safety lesson, begin our journey to the first evenings destination, Vargas Island Inn. Accommodation: Lodge.
Day 2:Kayaking. An early breakfast and hot drinks before setting off for some morning paddling along the exposed coast of Vargas Island. We will lunch on one of the beautiful sandy beaches, taking time to capture photographs of the abundant wildlife. Accommodation: Camping.
Day 3:Kayaking. Onwards we go after breakfast and hot drinks, continuing our journey north, enjoying the rugged west coast environment. Accommodation: Camping.
Day 4:Kayaking. An early rise and a hearty breakfast before we continue north following the coastline. Today we will kayak through Hayden Passage as we make our way around the north end of Flores Island. Accommodation: Camping.
Day 5:Arrive & camp at hot springs cove. Another blissful morning of paddling brings us to our final destination; we save the best for last! What could be better than relaxing tired muscles in the inviting 54° C (129° F) geothermal pools of Hot Springs Cove? Need we say more…..! Accommodation: Camping.
Day 6:Departure day. Following another hearty breakfast we will break camp and await our water taxi pick-up. While we enjoy this boat ride through the islands, we are often fortunate to see Grey whales as they migrate through Clayoquot Sound. Upon returning to the port of Tofino we will enjoy our final lunch and say our farewells to those that are not traveling with us.
