the amazing things you'll be doing
This 6 day holiday on the beautiful tropical Island of Bimini in the Bahamas Bimini is unique for it's warm, shallow, crystal clear waters and the atlantic Spotted dolphins who are very habituated to human interaction. The dolphins often come up within arms length, they are very curious and playful, swimming alongside, diving and spiralling beneath us. Their exquisite movements enchant us as we lose ourselves in their underwater ballet immersed in a symphony of sound. Daily trips with resident skipper who has a wealth of experience in Bimini on a luxury cruise boat "Destiny" and "Adventurer". Trips are done both in the morning and afternoon and can be anywhere from 3 to 4 hours in length.
The Dolphins: It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the "Dolphin Grounds" before we begin our pattern. At times, the Dolphins have come to the boat in as little as 30 minutes. At times it has taken over 3 hours. On average, about 1 out of every 5 trips the Dolphins opt not to come to the boat at all. But that's the nature of a "Wild Encounter". When they do come they tend to stay around for anything between 15mins and an hour. For those times that they do join us, the experience has been unforgettable as are the smiles of radiant joy on the faces of our guests!
Other Activities
As well as the dolphin swims, the resort has a lot of things to do in the evening: Restaurants, bars and clubs where you can dance calypso to get that Carribean feelin'! What ever you choose to do the laid back lifestyle on Bimini is contagious. Some want to do everything, others enjoy doing nothing at all. The great thing about it is that the choice is entirely yours. There is plenty of scuba, sea Kayaking and the resort specialises in deep sea fishing. The Island has many places of magic and mystery, explore the ancient legends of atlantis and the 'undersea bimini road'.
Bimini: A tiny island in the Bahamas, Bimini is just 7 miles long and barely 700 feet wide at it's widest point. Lying just 50 miles east of the South Florida coast line, it is the western most island in the Bahamas and the closest foreign island to the US mainland.
Accommodation, The Resort: The resort in Bimini & Marina has long been one of the great marine-sports centres of the Bahamas. Loyal guests return to this convenient spot year after year to enjoy its club-like atmosphere and beautiful surrounding waters - world famous for boating, fishing (deep-sea and bone fishing), diving, kayaking, and wild dolphin encounters. Following a recent multimillion-dollar refurbishment, the resort is now better than ever. Centrally located, a short stroll from the beach, it has 51 air-conditioned rooms, cottages and penthouses, a 74-slip full-service marina, a fine restaurant, a popular bar and complete sporting facilities right on the property.
Weather: During the months of May through October you can expect both the air and water temperatures to be in the mid to high 80's. Wet suits are usually not required after June and sometimes not until as late as December. November through April the air temperature is normally between the mid 70's to mid 80's. On average, the water temperature hits a seasonal low of 72-75 sometime in early February.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our boat operators are a 100% Bahamian, family owned and operated business that has been serving travelers from around the world for over 18 years. We are responsible for a very large part of the tourism on the island and work closely with other Bahamians to help our guests experience the island life and support local businesses.
Our boat operators are the ONLY Bahamaian company operating wild dolphin encounters in the Bahamas. Our boat operators were the company that first discovered the wild dolphins in the Bimini area and pioneered the procedures used for safe, eco-friendly Wild Dolphin Encounters in the Bahamas. Each summer, we invite researchers from the Mystic Aquarium - Institute for Exploration to join us on each and every dolphin adventure. These researchers monitor dolphin behavior and help our boat operators to continue to conduct our trips in a respectful, non-instrusive manner. All guides and captains are fully qualified and have years of experience conducting wild dolphin adventures in Bimini. Each and every member of our crew is dedicated to keeping the wild Dolphin experience one that will be beneficial to both the dolphins and our guests. Our most important goal is to enjoy the dolphins on their terms, in their environment. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
