what excites us about this holiday
This trip has such a fantastic range of adventures and wildlife and offers the chance to have a really authentic experience of Thailand. I love the idea of staying with local Thai families and visiting a village school. With waterfalls, hot springs, mountains, elephants and a million bats on top of that it’s impossible to pick out just one highlight! Lani, responsibletravel.com
the amazing things you'll be doing
Wildlife, Waterfalls and Mountains

Get away from it all on your very own wildlife and nature eco adventure. You'll explore a vast wildlife reserve for a chance to spot animals in the wild, get up close and personal to elephants, trek in tropical jungle, swim in spectacular waterfalls as well as have time to relax amongst the rolling hills and valleys. This two-week private tour can be taken at your own pace, so whether you are the more active type or keener on taking your time learning about the culture, you'll certainly return feeling refreshed with tales to tell!

The lovingly-designed itinerary starts with a whistle-stop visit to Bangkok to tick off the main sights before you venture away from the tourist trail and into the lush landscapes of tropical Thailand. First stop, the countryside outside Chiang Mai in the north. Here you'll explore cascading 10-tier waterfalls as songbirds and butterflies flit around you and explore one of Thailand's highest mountains in Chiang Dao, home to rare birds extinct elsewhere in the world. You'll also spend a day at a unique sanctuary for elephants, Elephant Nature Park, a far cry from the elephant camps that the typical tourist visits - you'll even get to scrub them down in the river! You'll have a bit of time to go into the city of Chiang Mai for some sightseeing and shopping (our driver will take you and wait for you), though we recommend staying away from the touristy night bazaar and buying your souvenirs in the handicraft villages dotted around the outskirts of the city.

Then it's time to head further north and really off the beaten track. Here, you'll trek up a mountain for spectacular views over neighbouring Laos, bathe in hot springs and dine outdoors, under a blanket of sparkling stars. You'll also get to meet meet locals of all ages - you'll visit a local primary school and the early-evening football matches are a highlight in the village's social calendar!

The last part of your holiday will be at Khao Yai National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it spans over 2,000 square kilometers and is home to herds of wild elephants, clouded leopards and monkeys, as well a vast array of flora and fauna. Here, you'll see over a million bats swarm out into the night, trek through the jungle and drive around in an open-topped jeep to see as much as possible of this vast wildlife reserve.

Please contact us for full details of this recommended itinerary. This itinerary can be taken by couples who want a holiday on their own or families with teenage or younger children (aged 6 or above). We have designed this itinerary to be perfectly balanced, however, we can customise the itinerary if needed. Beach extensions are possible.

Best time to travel: This particular itinerary can be taken all year around although there is risk of running into heavy rain in September and October.

Day 15:Morning transfer to Bangkok airport by car and international flight back, arriving at London Heathrow at approximately 7pm UK time.
tailor made holidays
This holiday is designed for people who like to travel on their own, as a couple, as a family or as friends (not in a group with other people they do not know previously). You will not have a 'tour leader' or an 'escort' with you all the time. We run our own operations so do not need to rely on this type of arrangement to make sure your holiday is organised.

We work hand-in-hand with our unique network of local people who are backed up by our carefully-picked drivers and local office. This means you will meet a range of trusted local people throughout your holiday and have time on your own, with full confidence that your holiday will run smoothly at all times.
how this holiday makes a difference
Nature and wildlife holiday All our holidays are deliberately designed to be as socially responsible as possible, and we work with local people on a highly individual basis, ensuring that working with us is in harmony with their daily lives.

You will get an unrivalled insight into local culture by the people themselves, you'll meet a wide range of people on an 'equal' basis, not just those involved in the tourist industry to 'serve' you. When you are with 'professional' guides, they are usually native to the local area, not from the 'big city'.

You will learn about life in Thailand, both traditional and modern, sustainable ways of living and farming, local festivals, dances etc. We find people who will show these to you and compensate them accordingly, this helps local people's efforts of keeping their pride in their traditions alive.

You will spend most of your time areas away from the main tourist destinations, therefore providing additional income in local economies that may not normally benefit from revenue from tourism. Whether you pop out to dinner in a village, a housewife buys food to make you dinner at her local market, or you pop into the village co-operative to browse the local handicrafts, your holiday will help the very places and people you visit. The accommodation you stay in is small and local, sometimes converted from an existing building, otherwise built with comparatively low impact to the environment. When you do stay in a 'conventional hotel' in Bangkok, it is a Green Hotel, which uses solar energy for heating the hot water and room sensors which automatically turn off lights and appliances.

We encourage visiting less places and spending more time there which allows richer experiences than may be possible otherwise. This also has the environmental impact of travelling less over long distances. Where feasible, we use overnight trains for long distances. Whilst we do use private cars and minivans, where possible the vehicles are fuelled by LPG. We also use local transport in certain areas, though where possible we promote exploring local areas by foot or bicycle.

You may notice that our holidays do not include elephant riding - you will learn why when you spend time at Elephant Nature Park. This is a showpiece of wildlife conservation in Asia, founded by a passionate lady who has been named Time Magazine's 'Asian Hero of the Year' for her efforts. Not only does Elephant Nature Park provide a refuge for elephants from all over Thailand, often previously-abused, but it spreads knowledge on humane training, elephant welfare to the wider community as well as providing medical assistance to elephants who are not lucky enough to live here.

It goes without saying that we also provide cultural guidelines and travel tips which include responsible travel information about the local culture, how to dress, specific information about tipping etc as well as the obvious information like encouraging sensible use of resources such as water.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
