introduction to Cultural immersion holiday in Thailand

Get closer to Thailand on this cultural journey that takes you to the centre of life here. You'll be off the beaten track and away from other tourists on your own tailor-made tour.

Mildly challenging, you'll get to stay in three small communities discovering hidden customs and authentic village family life.

Make real connections with your hosts as they teach you about agriculture, hill tribes and the history of old Siam on this stimulating adventure.

Get your first glimpse of the Thai countryside on the scenic drive from Bangkok into the heart of Thailand's rice-growing Central Plains region. Feel at home as you get to know a farmer and his family. Explore paddy fields close to the village and earn Buddhist merit when you're taken to the temple to give Alms to the monks. You'll also have a whole day's trip to nearby Ayuthaya to absorb the UNESCO world heritage ruins and history of this fascinating city.

Fly north to Chiang Mai to stay in a Hmong hilltribe village. Discover the cultures and religions of the community as a guest taking in local museums, farms and watching traditional song and dance. Head out on a gentle trekking tour to take in the lush fertile landscape and see the sun set over the valley.

Move onto countryside village, Chiang Dao to be treated to two days of wonderful home cooking as you get to explore the beautiful natural scenery of this area. Visit the wildlife sanctuary to see fascinating rare birds at sunrise, atmospheric caves and have a picnic in the forest. Go to the local market and visit other nearby hilltribe communities before leaving for your boutique hotel in Chiang Mai town to finish with a trip to the famous night bazaar.

Best time to travel
November - February for pleasant days and nights. March is also dry but considerably hotter.

traveller reviews for Cultural immersion holiday in Thailand

The traditional Thai dancing was absolutely stunning – we had a taste of four different types of dance by the elegant dancers, as well as a charming routine by a young girl. It was also wonderful to visit a local temple with Tim, who was a delightfully warm & friendly guide. (more)
tailor made holidays
This holiday is designed for people who like to travel on their own, as a couple, as a family or as friends (not in a group with other people they do not know previously). You will not have a 'tour leader' or an 'escort' with you all the time. We run our own operations so do not need to rely on this type of arrangement to make sure your holiday is organised.

We work hand-in-hand with our unique network of local people who are backed up by our carefully-picked drivers and local office. This means you will meet a range of trusted local people throughout your holiday and have time on your own, with full confidence that your holiday will run smoothly at all times.
how this holiday makes a difference
All our holidays are deliberately designed to be as socially responsible as possible, working in harmony with the daily lives of local people.

On all of our holidays, you will spend most of your time areas away from the main tourist destinations, therefore providing additional income in local economies that may not normally benefit from revenue from tourism.

On this holiday, you will get a unique insight into the different cultures of people who live in Thailand. You will learn about a Thailand far away from the highlights of Bangkok, gaining a real understanding of authentic village life. You will meet and stay in the homes of Thai people who range from a rice farmer, the traditional "backbone" of the Thai economy, to a Christian priest in a little-visited Hmong hill tribe village who will introduce you to the traditional way of life of his flock.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
