the amazing things you'll be doing
Jordan is an ideal destination for a one-week break. Bursting with things to see and do this, itinerary includes the best of what this magnificent country has to offer, visiting all the major sites of interest. We will have two full days to explore the spectacular rose-red city of Petra and a guided visit around Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. There is time to 'float' in the salty waters of the Dead Sea and snorkel (optional) over the beautiful coral reefs of the Red Sea. We will also explore the fabulous scenery in the desert at Wadi Rum, where we take a 4WD excursion into the more remote regions and camp out like the Bedouin.

As a part of our continued commitment to responsible tourism, we work closely with our local operator to run this trip in a way that aims to reduce impacts and to give as much back as possible to the local communities. As with the rest of our trips the basics to such a policy is to run trips which involve small groups, never to exceed 18 people.
Our local operator runs a non governmental organisation, whose aim it is to involve those communities we have an impact upon, into the local tourism infrastructure. This includes offering tour leader training, employment and supplying training to communities regarding local economic development, conservation techniques and the possibilities surrounding such initiatives as community based tourism and agro-tourism. This trip involves many sites where the fees paid will help towards cultural, social and environmental conservation. As well as these, whilst in Wadi Rum you will be looked after by a local Bedouin family. This family make sure that everything that we need for our stay comes from the local community. This will include food, transportation and optional camel treks provided by the local owners cooperative. Our Local Operator has spent significant time training your guides on responsible tourism issues. This means that your leader will be informed of the different ways in which you will be able to contribute to local economic development and conservation matters. As previously mentioned, where possible, we use locally owned and run accommodation on this trip. There has been a vast increase in foreign investment and hotel ownership into Jordan in the last decade which has meant an extra effort to find hotels that are locally owned, run, and includes local recruitment. We have at our offices worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively try to reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit! |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
