the amazing things you'll be doing
A holiday at this guesthouse in Swedish Lapland is all about small-scale, genuine experiences and discovery.

The guesthouse is an ideal getaway for small groups, families or couples. We take you away from tour groups and tourist areas, inviting you to explore, be inspired by the beautiful landscape and untouched nature, and take part in the local culture. You are welcome to book just accommodation and meals, or together with us design a tailor-made programme of activities for you stay. With our wide range of activities and flexible approach in designing your programme, your needs and interests will be well catered for.

Personal and reliable service from your hosts and guides, authentic experiences of the local culture and nature, the time and space for well-being and relaxation, and, of course, respect and care for nature and the community we are a part of, is fundamental to all that we offer. Our space can also be booked for small conferences or group retreats.
special things to do and see here
exterior, Swedish Lapland holiday accommodation We offer a range of activities that make the most out of the changing seasons of the north and offer opportunities for friendship and fun.

Winter brings a wonderful snowy landscape with opportunities for dog-sledging, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and igloo building. Cosy indoor activities with handicrafts or Christmas themes are also available.

The Northern Lights and nuances of light in the dark winter sky are a breathtaking experience in themselves. Traditional wooden cross-country skis and snowshoes for exploring the wilderness and kick-sledges are available to rent.

walkers, Swedish Lapland holiday accommodation The summer brings the midnight sun and an explosion of wild herbs and flowers. August is the season for wild berry and mushroom harvesting. Late-August to early October is an ideal season for walking and cycling. We are surrounded by five of the last big unexploited rivers in Europe. Bicycles are available to rent.

There are options for day trips for those that would like to explore on their own or with a guide. Gems of old forest and historic sites from the Sámi, lumberjack and farming cultures can be sought out nearby. Many charming small villages and beautiful natural areas are within a couple of hours journey.

We often arrange for an evening bath in a wood fired sauna. We can also arrange for massage therapy and private or group yoga classes.

fireplace, Swedish Lapland holiday accommodation Cuisine: Meals and snacks are freshly prepared with the highest quality, organic, and local ingredients available. Occasionally, with advance request, local wild or semi wild meat or fish may be offered.

We create meals that build and balance the body and satisfy the senses. Root vegetables, grains and pulses form the basis of most meals. Occasionally, local wild meat or fish may be offered. Small amounts of imported produce add variety. Coffee, tea and chocolate are fair-trade. We happily accommodate those with special diets with creatively prepared, fresh food.

Organic produce: Meals at the retreat guesthouse are lovingly prepared with over 90% organic ingredients. The guesthouse has its own organic garden which provides herbs and a portion of the root vegetables used in the kitchen. Grown under the midnight sun, the herbs and vegetables are full of great flavour and high in life energy.

travellers' tales
It's hard to say which part was most memorable - watching the Northern Lights dance in the sky as the swans sang on the river, walking in the crisp morning leaves and seeing the mist rise from the lakes, spotting reindeer among the trees... the holiday was filled with wonderful sites and sounds throughout and our hosts helped us make the most of every day.  (more)
flights/trains at Xmas & New Year
For the Christmas and New Year period you need to book your flights or train tickets early to ensure availability and good value for money. Travel to Lapland around the holidays fills up very quickly and is normally difficult to book by the end of November. Scandinavian Airlines www.flysas.com offers direct flights from the UK to Kiruna. Veolia Transport, www.bokatag.se, offers train tickets from Stockholm/Arlanda airport. Travel through Kittilä in Finland is also possible.
how this holiday makes a difference
We are a small locally owned company working together with other local companies to provide small-scale activities and genuine experiences of Lapland.

second bedroom, Swedish Lapland holiday accommodationWe are committed to a way of life that recognises the interconnectedness of all things and fosters peace and understanding within ourselves and in our world. This lies at the heart of all we offer and is the essential focus of many of the activities and programmes we arrange. We strive to step more lightly on the earth, support the health of our guests and our community, protect biodiversity and conserve water and energy. This includes:

  • Elimination of waste through reusing, recycling and reducing consumption of material products
  • Providing our guests with healthy food, locally and organically grown whenever possible
  • Water conservation through a water recycling system and by ensuring that we minimize polluting any water source or water body
  • Maintaining a dry (compost) toilet system where human waste is recycled into the natural ecosystem
  • Reducing the consumption of and/or release of any substance that may cause environmental damage to the air, water, or the earth or its inhabitants
  • Protecting biodiversity and conservation of the small ecosystem on our property.
  • Conserving energy and making every effort to increase energy efficiency and use renewable energy sources
  • Asking visitors to respect local conditions, people, nature and culture. Our guides and hosts inform about and encourage awareness and appreciation for the local environment and culture
  • Using local suppliers whenever possible
  • Continually evaluating our progress towards sustainability
  • Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
