the amazing things you'll be doing
To trek here is to experience the Kingdom of Bhutan at its most magnificent.

From the towering snow peaks of the inner Himalaya to the verdant forests which cloak the hills above its peaceful valleys, the trails are clean and unspoiled, and the wilderness still pristine in its beauty.

Unlike Nepal, Bhutan's trekking routes have not been over trekked - only on main routes in peak season will you meet other trekkers. Many of the routes are old trade routes, now unused, and are often more precipitous and less-maintained than in Nepal, consequently offering fresher wilderness and village experiences.

These are a few of the treks available.

Gangtey & Phobjikha Valley Trek - moderate trekking
From US $1530 - US $1900 (9 days) depending on number of people travelling (1-6 people)
In addition to the cultural highlights of Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and Wangdu explore Gangtey and Phobjikha, a glacial valley on the western slopes of the Black Mountains. The valley is a designated conservation area and, due to the large flocks of black-necked cranes that winter here it is one of the most important wildlife preserves in the country. There are also muntjack (barking deer), wild boar, sambar, Himalayan black bear, leopard & black fox in the area.

Cultural Bhutan & Bumthang Trek - moderate trekking
From US $2040 - US $2520 (12 days) depending on number of people travelling (1-6 people)
The lovely Bumthang valley is the religious heartland of the nation and home to some of its oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries. This three day trek passes through several villages on its meandering route through Bumthang countryside, and provides an exceptional opportunity for contact with Bhutanese rural life.

Haa Valley Ancient Trade Route - strenuous trekking
From US $1720 - US $2120 (10 days) depending on number of people travelling (1-6 people)
This ancient trade route, newly opened to trekkers, traverses some of the most scenic valleys of western Bhutan and villages rarely visited by foreigners. This is a thickly forested area interspersed with rich grazing pastures. Not neglecting the better known highlights of Bhutan, visit the famous dzongs of Punakha, Wangdue and Par and the dramatically situated Taktsang monastery as well as importand, but seldom visited temples of Haa.

Druk Path Trek - strenuous trekking
From US $2050 - US $2520 (12 days) depending on number of people travelling (1-6 people)
One of the most scenic treks in Bhutan, the Druk Path ventures along wilderness trails into unpopulated regions, past several remote lakes. There is plenty of time also to visit the architectural wonders and spiritual centers of Paro and Thimphu, to chat with the people and shop in the bazaars. This is a trip that will introduce you to all facets of this entrancing country.
how this holiday makes a difference
All our itineraries in Bhutan are operated by a privately owned Bhutanese agency, using licensed local guides and drivers.

Groups and individuals may make donations to a privately owned and operated orphanage in Thimphu - assistance with providing school uniforms is always appreciated. Providing notice is given visits to the orphanage are both possible and greatly enjoyed by children and teachers alike.

In Eastern Bhutan we offer support to a school for the blind and whilst few travellers venture that far, it is possible to contribute through our local agent.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
