the amazing things you'll be doing
Luxor or ancient Thebes is known to have more than 80 percent of Egyptian artefacts. It is filled with awe inspiring monuments of ancient civilization as well as some of the best preserved monuments in the world.
Visiting Luxor, you can walk through history; past statues with the heads of gods and animals, beneath carved lotus buds and papyrus. Ride in a horse-drawn caleche, sail in a felucca, take a sunset cruise or see the city from a hot-air balloon.
Travellers there find themselves surrounded by souks, mud brick houses and luxury hotels. You will not only enjoy the oldest remains in Egypt, but also the history of trade and agriculture, of vast camel caravans and the cities that grew from that.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Luxor, Egypt is the world’s most treasured antiquities sites. It is on the exclusive UNESCO World Heritage Site List, as one of the only 560 natural and cultural sites worldwide. Unfortunately the city of Luxor is facing many problems. Urban sprawl threatens historical sites as well as agricultural land. Many parts of the city is lacking infrastructure. Uncontrolled cruise traffic gave raise to serious environmental problems, such as sewerage and other discharges from the vessels. Luxor needs to fight all these issues to maintain its viability as a desired tourist destination, and accommodate the rapid expansion of tourism and agriculture.
This is why we have joined forces with certain NGOs and government bodies to formulate and implement a strategic development plan for sustainable development of Luxor. Travellers on this trip will have the chance to visit some of these centres and institutes working in this program and learn more about the development of Luxor and also have the chance to contribute in various ways to this immense project. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
