the amazing things you'll be doing
Four centre Brazil holiday.
Historic Fazenda in the Pantanal - 3 nights: The largest contiguous wetland on the planet, the Pantanal is South America’s primary wildlife sanctuary, a bio-geographic mixing bowl of fantastic biodiversity.
Reached by a stunning light aircraft flight, your Fazenda of just 5 rooms, built in 1920, is a piece of living history as well as a truly memorable place to stay. Now owned by a non profit making NGO, its grounds are legally protected as a Natural Heritage Private Reserve making it unique in the Pantanal
The grounds here are not doubling as grazing pastures for cows but are a natural wetland area of forests and lakes exclusive to the guests of the lodge and to researchers (who choose this as the ideal location in the Pantanal to study the animals). Stay in our favourite room with private sitting room and high colonial ceilings. Rodrigo, our guide, will look after you exclusively, organising kayaking, horse riding and Jeep trips to explore the area.
Iguaçu Falls - 2 nights: Made up of some 275 separate falls that cascade over a precipice 3km wide Foz do Iguacu is, without question, one of the world‘s great natural wonders. Their beauty and sheer magnificence really are indescribable.
Your guide, Wilson will give you a personal tour of the Brazilian and Argentinean sides, before you take a powerboat ride beneath, allowing you to fully appreciate this natural wonder.
We use the only hotel actually based within the national park of the falls, a charming hacienda style lodge set amongst tranquil gardens.
Boutique Pousada on the Costa Verde – 4 nights: Your pousada set in this truly unique location, nearby to the enchanting colonial town of Parati a UNESCO world heritage site and is of the highest quality. It combines beautifully the relaxation and activity that the area has to offer. This is a genuine fishing village where locals (although extremely friendly) are concerned with fish and not tourists. All this makes for a fabulous look at the real Brazil where you get a genuine feel for the people, culture and the country.
The owner of your Pousada, Emmanuel is the perfect host, who knows his guests needs as much as he does the area, and is never short of ideas for you. Your days can be spent on the many superb beaches and islands of the area, relaxing in the refreshing natural pools, at the waterfalls, or in Parati, all of which can be easily accessed by foot, boat or jeep, providing of course that you aren’t trekking in the jungle or horse riding in the mountains.
Whichever you choose be sure to enjoy the sunset at a beach restaurant on one of the many uninhabited islands. We’ll make sure you access the best the area has to offer.
The Full Treatment in Rio - 3 nights: Being based here ourselves, we are uniquely positioned to get you closer to the residents and their culture; we are on hand to help you, from organising samba lessons, to local etiquette and where the locals go to enjoy authentic live music.
To integrate you further into the surroundings you stay at our luxury apartment right on the best part of Ipanema beach. The apartment is decorated to the highest standard with local and sustainably sourced furniture including a king-size bed and linen sheets from Ceara. You are also equipped with wireless internet, a large DVD collection including Brazilian films and music, a bar stocked with drinks and the means and method of making a true caipirinha for yourself and enjoyed best on your large balcony with views of the beach and mountains. In the garage you will find your own surfboards and bicycles.
Your guide, Vitor will arrange a day to give you a personalised luxury city tour, showing you those details often missed by the conventional tours and stopping at an excellent local restaurant for lunch before visiting Christ the Redeemer.

travellers' tales
Most memorable? Probably Iguacu. Absolutely amazing falls and the hotel was lovely. However all the venues were excellent. (more)

Owned by a renowned conservation NGO, your stay in the historic Fazenda is helping to fund many conservation projects in the Pantanal. In fact, so well preserved is the surrounding area that the lodge is home to a number of researchers who find this location ideal for researching and promoting the understanding of the diverse flora and fauna in the delicate Pantanal habitat.
Your pousada on the ‘Costa Verde’ provides a vital revenue stream for the people of this small fishing village, where all staff and their family members live. The pousada is perfectly integrated into its surroundings and due to its size, does not upset the balance of this small community, where life goes on as it has done for generations. All food and materials are sourced from the village where possible; the fish for dinner will have been caught by fishermen earlier that day and vegetables come from local gardens. All of our guides and drivers are locally sourced, this allows you to step out of the tourist bracket, and discover much more of this city than usually possible. Equally important to us, because of how much the business and the clients gain from them is giving these staff the opportunity to improve their English, earn money and show off their home to you. They are immensely proud people, making them extremely good at their job, energetic and fun. Part of the cost of your holiday goes towards the planting of 20 hard wood trees in the Mata Atlantica, under the guidance of R.E.G.U.A. (Reserva Ecologica de Guapi Assu) who protect one of the last stands of primary tropical rainforest left in the severely depleted Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil. This gesture is greatly appreciated by locals and campaigners alike, but most of all by the wildlife. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
