the amazing things you'll be doing
This trek traverses the 'mountain of God' of the Kikuyu tribal group of Kenya, a mountain that is dissected by the equator and is believed to be the only snowcapped mountain right on the equator. It is a trek that offers great scenery and rich alpine vegetation that range from savannah, tropical rainforest, moorland and alpine desert.

Group sizes vary from 1 to 12 people, with prices changing accordingly. Trips should normally be booked at least 30 days before departure date but we may be able to make arrangements with as little as 2 weeks notice.

Prices include land transport, accommodations, food (including dietary requirements), local guide services and park & camp site fees. However, not included are insurance, mineral water and alcoholic drinks, personal effects including sleeping bags, special services requested and tips.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Depart from Nairobi and drive through agricultural country full of passion fruit, pineapples and coffee sandwiched in awesome scenery. Arrive at Naromoru to meet porters and guides before embarking on a 3-4 hour hike from Naromoru gate (2600m) through giant rain forest to arrive at Met station camp (3050m) for overnight in hut.
Day 2:This day is strenuous and long and needs enough acclimatizing habits to tackle the vertical trek through scenic valleys with panoramic view of the main peaks. Arrive after 7-8 hours to check in at Mackinders hut (4300m).
Day 3:Unwind from the previous long hike. After breakfast take the peak circuit path on the west side of the main peaks down to Oblong Tarn before descending to Shiptons Hut (4200m) for overnight.
Day 4:The summit conquer day. Wake up for a cup of tea before taking the hike at 3:00am to catch the sunrise at the hikers summit, Pt. Lenana (4985m) after 3-5 hours. On a clear day is a magnificent view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a proof that you are on the roof of Kenya. Later descend down to Gorges valley for breakfast and overnight. Gorges valley is one of the most eye-catching features on Mt. Kenya, this is why we opt to spent our night here and not the popular tourist site Mintos camp.
Day 5:A leisurely hike down the Chogoria route that takes you down in 5-6 hours with opportunities for picturesque sites including the main peaks before arriving to overnight in the bandas.
Day 6:Descend to catch up with vehicle en route.
how this holiday makes a difference
From our humble beginning, amongst the Mt. Kenya guides, we endeavour to enhance and promote the welfare of the porters and guides operating on Mt. Kenya and by extension the local Kikuyu community inhabiting the area. This trip ensures clients' utmost satisfaction through utilization of services from guides and porters registered and certified by Mt. Kenya National Park who have set standards of professionalism. The porters and guides are sourced from Mt. Kenya porters and guides and Burguret Youth for Conservation, all with impeccable service and value wages.

We do advice our visitors to have an extra day before the trek in order to have an opportunity to interact, experience the other side of Kikuyu customs and uplift their welfare. The visit will benefits a community training centre, which train local farmers on organic farming. The farm has promoted the livelihood of the local inhabitants through production of increased yields with the help of the new modern farming technologies employed.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
