the amazing things you'll be doing
Short but sweet, 8 fantastic days in and around Kenya’s finest game parks. With two full days in the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve and a day in Nakuru National Park, this safari offers superb opportunities for photographing animal and bird life. With the tranquil beauty of Lake Naivasha, the impressive scenery of the Great Rift Valley and a visit to the traditional Masai tribespeople, this makes a great adventure.
8 day overland truck safari, including 3 experienced crew, park fees, permits for included highlights, spacious tents and quality camping equipment. Highlights include 2 days wildlife viewing in the Masai Mara National Reserve, 1 days wildlife viewing in Lake Nakuru National Park and a visit to Lake Naivasha - famous for its bird life.
You will also be given the opportunity to meet the Masai and learn about their culture and lifestyle. This tour is grade 2, meaning that it has some non-strenuous walking, canoeing or cycling involved but it is not difficult. The activities are part of the tour rather than the overall focus of the tour.

day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Nairobi. The adventure begins in Kenya's multicultural capital. Once just a swampy rural area, Nairobi is now the largest city between Cairo and Johannesburg. |
| Day 2: | Lake Nakuru. Spend the morning at a rural school on the outskirts of Nairobi. Continue to Lake Nakuru for lunch and set up camp within the park. The lake sits among a beautiful area of acacia trees and pelicans, cormorants and millions of flamingos descend on it throughout the year. The savannah area of the park also boasts animals including giraffes, rhinos and lions, and is one of the best places to see leopards in Kenya. |
| Day 3-4: | Lake Naivasha. Travel on to another birdwatchers' paradise, Lake Naivasha. As an option spend a day cruising on the lake to spot hippos or trek out into Hell's Gate National Park. Stroll past grazing zebras, towering giraffes and sprightly gazelles. |
| Day 5: | Loita Hills. Travel across the Great Rift Valley floor to the Loita Hills and camp with the Masai tribes people and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Dressed in elaborate jewellery and vibrant red cloth, the semi-nomadic Masai can often be seen tending their cattle outside the village. |
| Day 6-7: | Masai Mara. The world-renowned Masai Mara Reserve is a huge area of woodlands and open plains, backed by the striking Esoit Oloololo Escarpment. The region is littered with wildlife and safaris through the park will hopefully uncover lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos and perhaps even leopards. |
| Day 8: | Nairobi. Travel back through the bush to the urban wilds of Nairobi. If you have some time up your sleeve, Kenya's eclectic capital is an interesting place to spend a couple of days. There are museums and gardens to while away the day, or get up close to giraffes at the Giraffe Centre. |
travellers' tales
On day one we saw four of the big five (with the aid of super-powerful binoculars!). Also the trip to the Maasai village was fantastic - we got a unique and amazing insight into a completely different way of life. (more)
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.how this holiday makes a difference
We plant a tree for every passenger trip week that we operate, and we plant the trees in Africa, thus greening the environment there and employing locals. All our holiday staff are employed locally, and the tour leaders have passed the 'Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association' exams which cover the do's and don't when game driving. We make sure all clients receive a guide leaflet prior to travel indicating what is and is not acceptable in terms of dress, souvenirs, photography and more, and our tour leaders, being local, also brief and guide any local interactions. We have recently handed over 49% of the shares in the Kenyan sector of our company to our local managers. Through various projects we raise considerable sums for local charities including the Amani Children's Home in Moshi (Tanzania). When not working for us, we often send our safari trucks out on safari with local school kids to give them a taste of their own country in the national parks that are often too expensive for locals to visit. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
