Perhaps the two most famous places in Africa – the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater – are yours to experience on this brief but immensely satisfying journey. Serengeti translates from the Masai language as ‘endless plains’, and every species of savannah wildlife, from the tiny dik-dik, to the magnificent African elephant, lives here.
Three million years ago, the Ngorongoro volcano imploded, and today this vast caldera is home to 30,000 animals of all species. With the pre-history of Olduvai Gorge and the glorious scenery en route, you truly have a week you’ll never forget! This is a 7 day overland truck safari, including 3 experienced crew, park fees & permits for included highlights, spacious tents and quality camping equipment.
Highlights included in the price are 3 days wildlife viewing - with 2 days in the Serengeti National Park and a day in the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, a visit to Olduvai Gorge - home to earliest man, a Land Rover (or similar) safari into the Ngorongoro Crater, and visit Lake Victoria - Africa’s largest lake. day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Nairobi. Explore Kenya's exciting capital, one of Africa's largest cities. |
| Day 2: | Kisii. Crossing the Great Rift Valley to the tea growing areas of western Kenya is a fantastic way to be introduced to the country's beautiful landscapes. |
| Day 3: | Lake Victoria. Pass through the lands of the Masai and see them tending their cattle. Over the border in Tanzania, camp on the shores of Africa's largest lake. There is a range of optional activities on offer such as a boat trip on the lake. |
| Day 4-5: | Serengeti. Search for lions, cheetahs, leopards, zebras and giraffes in the vast grass plains and rocky outcrops of the Serengeti in the early morning and evening, relaxing during the heat of the day. At night, enjoy the chorus of nocturnal animals that roam the area. For a different view of the plains it is possible to take an early morning balloon safari. |
| Day 6: | Ngorongoro Crater. Spend a morning viewing wildlife in the Serengeti. Continue to Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area and spy more game en route. Visit Olduvai Gorge, home to earliest man, before continuing to a camp overlooking the crater. There are few campgrounds in the world that compare to this. The crater is 20km wide with 600m high walls with around 30,000 animals living within its boundaries. |
| Day 7: | Mto Wa Mbu. Descend into the crater to photograph some of the prolific wildlife, which includes elephants, rhinos and lions. Camp in the market village of Mto Wa Mbu and bargain for some ebony makonde carvings or brightly-coloured Tanzanian fabrics. |
| Day 8: | Nairobi. Travel to the modern wilds of eclectic Nairobi, where our trip ends in the late afternoon. |
small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.how this holiday makes a difference
 We plant a tree for every passenger trip week that we operate, and we plant the trees in Africa, thus greening the environment there and employing locals. All our holiday staff are employed locally, and the tour leaders have passed the 'Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association' exams which cover the do's and don't when game driving. We make sure all clients receive a guide leaflet prior to travel indicating what is and is not acceptable in terms of dress, souvenirs, photography and more, and our tour leaders, being local, also brief and guide any local interactions. We have recently handed over 49% of the shares in the Kenyan sector of our company to our local managers. Through various projects we raise considerable sums for local charities including the Amani Children's Home in Moshi (Tanzania). When not working for us, we often send our safari trucks out on safari with local school kids to give them a taste of their own country in the national parks that are often too expensive for locals to visit. |
