the amazing things you'll be doing
Combine relaxed and professional Spanish language lessons, any level, with the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. The third largest country in South America, Peru offers travellers an amazing range of activities and places to visit. From beautiful old colonial towns to ancient Inca ruins, the Andean mountains and Amazonian rainforest to impressive coastal nature reserves, Peru has something for everyone.

Peruvian Spanish is very easy to understand, and the opportunity to study in 2 different locations, all offering excellent value for money, makes it easy to understand why Peru is the favourite South American destination for our language students.

Spanish lessions: Our school offers Spanish courses in Cusco, the ancient Inca capital and in Urubamba, a small town in the Sacred Valley with excellent access to trekking trails.

Cusco is a lively city with a large range of cafés, bars and restaurants and is well connected by road and air to other parts of Peru. The extensive Inca world was once governed from here and there are extensive Inca ruins within easy reach of the city including Machu Picchu. Although tourism is undoubtedly important, Cusco is also a significant market town in the region and there are colourful markets selling local produce all year round. The Cusco school is situated in a little courtyard very close to the Plaza de Armas in a building which still retains its colonial charm. The school is relatively smalland the teachers are friendly and professional and always available to help students. Lessons are divided into 2 hours of grammar work and 2 hours of conversation each day and classes may be divided into morning and afternoon sessions. If you prefer a quieter location we suggets you study in Urubamba, a small town in the heart of the Sacred Valley.

The Inca Trail: The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru is one of the greatest treks in the world. On our group treks you will find yourself walking alongside other trekkers from all over the world. You can choose to return to Cusco on Day 4 or stay overnight in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco on the fifth day - giving more time to explore Machu Picchu and the surrounding area.

Volunteer work in Peru: We also offer the possibility of combining Spanish and volunteer work. This option is available in all locations and requires a pre-placement Spanish course of at least 3 weeks. The programmes offered are generally working with children in either schools or hospitals and can last for a minimum of 6 weeks in total.

We offer placements for volunteers - short or long term - in the newly established community project in the marginalised neighbourhood of Humano Hermanos Ayar, on the outskirts of Cusco. The project has been set up by volunteer social workers and teachers to provide much needed social and educational support to the children and families. Children are encouraged to attend study and games sessions held each afternoon and participate in constructive and educational projects outiwth their neighbourhoods and during the holidays. The objective is to keep the children from working on the streets, and to help and support their families.

There are a variety of options for helping out, from social work with families to helping at the afternoon sessions the kids come to to get help with their school work, running arts projects, games, organising excursions etc. Some Spanish is necessary. Accommodation is not provided but can be organised in hostel, hotel or homestay.

Price inclusions: Price includes Spanish tuition (20 lessons/wk), full board homestay, hotel with breakfast (1 night), airport pickup, city tour, 4 day Inca Trail inc 3 nights camping, meals, entry to Machu Picchu, equipment, guide & porters.

how this holiday makes a difference
Throughout Peru, we work together with local people, paying them a fair price, and putting money into the local economy. On this trip we use local Peruvian teachers and stay with local families, providing a direct input into the economy. On our Inca Trail trek we buy fresh local produce. In preference we choose local over imported goods, encouraging the use of Andean products in our cooking. We minimize waste by using products with minimum packaging, leaving no litter and keeping all water sources clean, leaving camp-sites cleaner than we find them. Rubbish is carried out.

We are involved in the ongoing training of our trek staff. All our porters on the Inca Trail carry a maximum 20kg load, and are provided with tents and food. We pay and treat our staff fairly. We support the Tourism Concern Porters Policy. We support Ninos childrens health care project in Cusco. We are happy to distribute your donations of much needed warm clothes and shoes to Peruvian children through this organization - please contact us for details of how you can help.

The volunteer work we offer is in a newly established community project in the marginalised neighbourhood of Humano Hermanos Ayar, on the outskirts of Cusco. You will assist the volunteer social workers and teachers in various projects to provide much needed social and educational support to the children and families in this poor urban area. The long term aim of this project is to support chidren and families so the children can actually go to school and stay in the education system for as long as possible giving them employment opportunities in the future and keeping them away from the dangers they face if they end up working on the streets.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
