the amazing things you'll be doing
Patagonia remains one of the world’s great trekking destinations - a vast wilderness with stunning mountains, turquoise lakes and massive glaciers.

This trip makes the most of this distant land and combines fully supported trekking itineraries to Torres del Paine in Chile and Fitzroy in Argentina. Each day your knowledgeable local guides will lead the way, allowing you to focus on the scenery, whilst porters and packhorses take care of your gear.

The adventure begins in Santiago, where we take the flight south, right down the spine of the Andes to Punta Arenas, Chile’s most southerly city.

The following day we make for Torres del Paine National Park for a six-day exploration of the Paine region, trekking to the massive Grey glacier, the ‘cuernos’ or horns and the incomparable granite Torres.

Crossing the border into Argentina, we visit the Perito Moreno glacier - arguably Patagonia’s finest - on the way to Los Glaciares National Park. Here we trek to some of the best viewpoints of Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy, two of the most distinctive and challenging mountaineering peaks in the world. We return to Punta Arenas for our final night in Patagonia and drink a toast to some of the most epic mountain scenery in the world.

Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-12 like minded travellers.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive Punta Arenas, Chile. We recommend flying via Santiago. Overnight in a delightful hotel in Punta Arenas.
Day 2:Torres del Paine, Ecocamp. Travel to Torres del Paine National Park via Puerto Natales. First night at ecocamp at Las Torres.
Day 3-6:Trekking in Torres del Paine. Four days to explore this superb national park. Highlights include a trek to Grey glacier, the ‘cuernos’ or horns of Paine and Mirador del Francés.
Day 7:Torres del Paine. A full day's trek to experience the highlight of the park – the Torres del Paine.
Day 8:Torres to Fitzroy. Across the border to El Calafate in Argentina and then on to El Chaltén, nestled at the foot of impressive Mount Fitzroy.
Day 9-11:Trekking in Los Glaciares National Park. Three days to enjoy the spectacle of this beautiful national park, with day treks to see the highlights of Laguna de Los Tres, Cerro Fitzroy and the extraordinary Cerro Torre rock needle.
Day 12:Perito Moreno Glacier. A visit to Perito Moreno, arguably the most spectacular glacier in South America.
Day 13:El Calafate. Bid farewell to Patagonia and depart from El Calafate (most of our clients choose to journey to Buenos Aires and fly home from there). Alternatively, a transfer to Punta Arenas and a final night in Patagonia can be arranged at a supplement.

how this holiday makes a difference
Travelling by foot is an inherently sustainable activity and is undoubtedly the best way to travel through the wild Patagonian landscape. This trip supports a wide range of local businesses from our guides to locally-owned small lodges and the first eco lodge south of the Amazon.

During this itinerary, we spend four nights at the remarkable eco camp, a cluster of geodesic domes based on the hut-designs of Patagonia’s ancient inhabitants who lived in perfect harmony with their environment. The domes are designed to maximize guests’ exposure to nature and its elements, with the highest level of comfort allowed by sustainable development in a fragile environment. These unique tents are raised to limit the impact on the surrounding areas. Initiatives such as using solar and wind power instead of fossil fuels and the collection of water at one particular source for heating and storage (which helps to avoid the need to dig the terrain), all contribute to the policy of minimum environmental impact. The camp is a temporary structure and is removed during the winter to allow the site to return to its original state.

Throughout this trip we focus on experiences which require human power such as trekking, in preference to vehicle based itineraries. Our guides also adhere to a strict policy of “leave no trace” which is relevant to flora and fauna, waste disposal, visual and noise intrusion and other land users. During this trip we present client briefings on environmental awareness, responsibilities and practice with particular emphasis on highlighting local environmental issues and threats in Patagonia. We also offer our clients the opportunity to offset carbon emissions arising from international air travel to Chile and within the country. The national park fees paid support the ongoing management and conservation of the natural environment in this part of Patagonia.

By demonstrating that ecotourism provides economic support to the area, we further strengthen the argument that this wild land should be conserved. Our local partners lead the way in the environmental practice and adhere to the highest standards of “leave no trace” – an essential ethic in this pristine part of the world.

On request, we would be pleased to provide a full copy of our sustainable tourism statements which contains full details on our commitment to responsible tourism in Chile and other destinations in which we operate.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.
