the amazing things you'll be doing
This tiny country has so much to discover! You will travel by motor launch through riverine forest on the New River to visit the ancient Maya ruins of Lamanai. You shall paddle canoes on the Macal River as you spend three nights in the exquisite thatched cabanas of an exclusive resort. You will ride horses through the rain forest and track the elusive big cats in the world’s only Jaguar Preserve. You will end your land adventure with snorkeling or scuba adventures on the largest Barrier Reef in the Northern Hemisphere.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive Belize City. Transfer to the New River then board a motor launch for transfer to your resort. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at the Lamanai Outpost Lodge.
Day 2:Lamanai Mayan Ruins. You awaken to the sounds of the forest, as Howler monkeys stake out their territories. Tour the Maya ruins of Lamanai and then choose from a number of activities as you explore the surrounding forest.
Day 3:Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center . Morning canoe trip then a short drive before heading to Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, where you are treated to a special behind-the-scenes glimpse of a Harpy Eagle Reintroduction Program and a Jaguar Rehabilitation Project. Travelling to the mountainous interior we arrive at your base for the next three nights; Chaa Creek Cottages situated in over 350 acres of rainforest and meadows in the scenic Macal River valley. These picturesque thatched cottages have en-suite bathrooms and a deck or porch.
Day 4:Tikal National Park, Guatemala. Full day tour of the awe-inspiring Maya ruins of Tikal; Tikal National Park occupies over 250 square miles and is a nature lover's paradise, with Spider monkeys and Howler monkeys clambering through the trees, and a rich and varied birdlife.
Day 5:Choice of activities. Today you can relax in the grounds of Chaa Creek Cottages. Choose between local hiking trails, swinging in a hammock, or paddling a canoe on the Macal River. Optional extras include a spa, horseback riding or a trip to the Mountain Pine Ridge and Rio-On Pools.
Day 6:Blue Hole National Park. Drive into town or choose to canoe down the Macal River to meet your vehicle and luggage. Then travel down the scenic Hummingbird Highway, stopping at the Blue Hole National Park where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the turquoise blue waters. Your destination today is your beach resort near Dangriga, the Pelican Beach Resort
Day 7:Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve and Belize Barrier Reef. An early start today is essential as you visit the world's only Jaguar Preserve, the Cockscomb Basin National Park. Here you explore the forest trails always hopeful of spotting the elusive great cat, but sure to see all kinds of other tropical wildlife. You return to the resort for a late lunch and to relax. You can choose to go snorkeling on the Belize Barrier Reef, or take a kayak and paddle up the Sittee River in search of iguanas and other wildlife.
Day 8:Belize Barrier Reef and beach. Snorkel on the Belize Barrier Reef, relax in a hammock, or perhaps paddle on the Sittee River where iguanas and crocodiles can regularly be seen basking on the river banks. For the more adventurous, and at a modest additional charge, you can also go scuba diving on the Barrier Reef.
Day 9:Departure. Transfer to Dangriga airport for a short domestic flight to the Philip Goldson International Airport.
