the amazing things you'll be doing
Experience Peru’s fascinating history, spanning countless civilizations and which has left us with unique man-made wonders set amongst truly breathtaking scenery.

Peru is one of the most varied and dramatic countries in South America. Its immense desert coastline and vast areas of tropical rainforest are divided by the vast Andes mountains that reach an altitude of over 7000 metres. A remarkable history, originating in 2000BC, shaped by the Inca Empire and then by the conquest of the Spanish, has left the Peru of today with a unique range of spectacular historic sites. Our itinerary has been arranged in conjunction with one of Peru’s leading tour operators and undoubtedly offers the very best way to see this wonderful country.

Once in Peru you will travel by private coach, tourist train and scheduled airline services in the company of our local guides, from the Pacific Coast to the high altitude of the Andes, enjoying unforgettable sights, sounds and experiences all the way! Accommodation will be in high quality hotels and our holiday price includes all touring, excursions and National Park entrances.

We will take you from the Capital city of Lima to the world’s deepest canyons at Colca, and from there on to Lake Titicaca. Enjoy one of the world’s great train journeys, from Puno to Cuzco, prior to visiting the Sacred Valley and the world renowned Machu Picchu. You will then stay overnight at Machu Picchu, ensuring you can enjoy this archaeological jewel when the crowds have departed. Furthermore, by choosing to travel with us, you will also be providing a meaningful contribution to UNICEF’s School Development Programme in Peru.

Amongst the many wonderful destinations we offer, we rarely experience one so awe-inspiring or exhilarating. With its spectacular sights and scenery, Peru is undoubtedly a country to visit for a true ‘holiday of a lifetime’.

day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Welcome to Peru. Our flight from London Heathrow brings you to your first destination, Lima.
Day 2:Discover Lima. Enjoy your first full day in Peru! We have arranged a sightseeing tour of the city and a visit to a working hacienda.
Day 3:Head South to Arequipa. Fly south to Arequipa and experience this remarkable city.
Day 4:Explore the Colca Valley. We will make an early morning departure towards the extraordinary Colca Canyon.
Day 5:The Condors of Colca Canyon. From our base in the Valley, we venture to the Canyon itself to catch sight of majestic condors gliding on the thermals.
Day 6:Across the Antiplano. Today we travel from the Canyon through the Andean Highlands to the Peruvian border town of Puno on the shore of Lake Titicaca.
Day 7:Lake Titicaca. You will enjoy a full day’s excursion to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
Day 8:Enjoy one of the world's great train journeys. This epic ten hour train adventure, travelling First Class aboard an Orient Express train, begins in Puno and takes you through the spectacular Andes to Cuzco, the capital city of the Inca Empire.
Day 9:Cuzco. Cuzco is considered the archaeological capital of South America. It was a remarkable Inca citadel, full of magnificent stone palaces and temples decorated with gold.
Day 10:The Sacred Valley and the Ollantytambo Fortress. No visit to Cuzco is complete without taking the opportunity to experience the Sacred Valley and the Ollantytambo Fortress. On your return to the hotel, you will meet with a senior representative of UNICEF to discuss their work and the challenges they face in Peru.
Day 11:Train to Machu Picchu. The experience of visiting Machu Picchu is undoubtedly one that you will always remember. At the end of the day, long after the day trippers have returned back to Cuzco, you will head back the short distance to Aguas Calientes where you will stay overnight.

Day 14:Welcome home. We arrive back in the UK, at the end of what will have undoubtedly been a wonderful tour of one the most spectacular countries in the world.

how this holiday makes a difference
This holiday has been developed in conjunction with UNICEF, the United Nations body working to provide health, education, equality and protection for all the world’s children. The holiday offers a unique travel experience and the opportunity for you to support their work.

We work with a specialist Peruvian travel company and with local tour guides who support our aims, namely to:
  • Encourage a positive impact from tourism for local people, including both social and economic benefits
  • Create a positive impact on the environment in Peru
We have developed these aims in to practical policies with the support of experts at UNICEF in Peru, who provide specialist support and advice.

Luxury tour ro Peru works with UNICEF and Climate Care The tour provides direct economic support to local humanitarian projects, through our partnership with UNICEF. For every passenger that travels US$50 is donated by ourselves to support projects organised by UNICEF in Peru. The funding given is used for projects directly related to the UNICEF School Development Programme, which aims to provide a stable education to children who, due to their personal circumstances, would not otherwise receive full time education.

Climate Care LogoWe have also developed a scheme with Climate Care to offset the carbon emissions from passengers’ international flights. Payment of £20 per person will be made on the passengers’ behalf by ourselves, which will be used to fund projects across the world that will reduce greenhouse gases through sustainable energy or rainforest reforestation. The value of this payment equates to the emissions level of the flight arrangements.

We work with a local travel company who supports our responsible tourism aims. This relationship further encourages them to develop and improve their local practices, as a result of the commercial benefits they enjoy by supplying their services to us. We also give practical support to ensure they successfully develop their own responsible tourism policies.

We always use local specialist tour guides to ensure that we support the local economy and population and do not simply generate earnings that are returned to the UK by a UK guide. We agree rates locally that ensure they are paid fairly for their services. We ensure that they are treated as equals, are given a reasonable workload and that their working hours are within local regulations.

As a result of our partnership with UNICEF, we are able to arrange a talk and discussion session with expert local staff from UNICEF in Peru to enable passengers to learn about the challenges and issues the organisation faces in Peru and the projects they are undertaking to try and resolve them. This session is also extremely beneficial to the local UNICEF staff as it provides them with a very rare opportunity to speak directly to an overseas audience and enables them to ensure that foreign visitors learn the genuine facts behind the issues of child welfare and education in Peru.

We also provide the opportunity for passengers to meet local people, dine at local restaurants, shop at local stores and learn about local cultures during their stay. This provides direct benefits to the communities and destinations visited by generating income for local restaurants, local shops and market stall holders.

WeavingWe endeavour to minimise any negative impact caused by visitors. We ensure:
  • We only visit areas where existing tourism programmes are taking place
  • Tour group size is limited to 30, a level that is sustainable in the areas visited
  • Passengers are advised to turn off lights, television, air conditioning and fans when leaving their hotel rooms and not to leave their towels for daily changing
  • Hotels are encouraged to operate a laundry system that minimises unnecessary use of water, such as replacing towels every day; and to recycle where possible
  • When visiting Machu Picchu and other sites, passengers are advised of local guidelines and regulations, in particular with regard to keeping to the existing trails and refraining from making excessive noise
  • We brief passengers on local customs, traditions, religion, body language and eating habits in the destination, to foster understanding and avoid causing offence.
  • Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
